Curran Knows Something

All of the passes that I've seen from Maye (and most of his college tape) shows a tremendous amount of velocity to all three area's of the field. He has a flick the wrist and it's 60 yards downfield type arm. Daniel's arm is actually no stronger than Mac's. He doesn't throw between the hash marks, or to the middle much, and doesn't have the velocity for the quick outs like Brady had. Most of his passes were deep because he had 2 studs that usually were always seriously open. It doesn't take a strong arm for the kind of throws Daniels made because his WR's were so open. Kind of like when Brady had Moss and he'd just have to get it near Moss and he'd come down with it.
I remember Brady saying he just threw it as far as he could and Moss would run under it

I remember Brady saying he just threw it as far as he could and Moss would run under it

This reminds me of the 2007 season opener at the Jete. A buddy and I made the trek and had second-row seats in the north end zone. New England had the ball at midfield, Brady dropped back and just heaved a ball that looked like it was coming straight at us. I didn't see a receiver in the area and thought, "WTF, where is he throwing this?" Suddenly Randy Moss zooms under it with three Jete defenders trailing him, snags it and scores. His speed was so deceptive because it appeared effortless. On the way out afterward a Jete fan walking past said to me, "Enjoy the Super Bowl."

He had an after burner that he used after he was blazing down the field
His biggest weapon was he would not position his arms to catch the ball until the last possible second so as not to tip off the defender

We all know that Curran and Mayo are close personally.

Curran has been pining for a trade down for months.

Over the past two days he started to change his tune…pumping up Drake Maye and his toughness. Then today, he just released his new podcast episode and said “I’ve heard it would take a lot MORE than 3 first round picks for them to consider trading down because of how they see the top quarterbacks ”.

What does it all mean? Could be nothing. Personally, I think Curran got a wink wink from Mayo, “don’t overthink it, we’re taking Drake Maye”.

FWIW
This news is music to my ears. It sounds like the Patriots have done their evaluations and they are happy to take either Maye or Daniels and consider them 'franchise qb' type of talents.

Buckle your seatbelts, this is gonna be a ride! It sounds like only a king's ransom would make them even consider budging from #3.

They aren't trading down! Wolf, Mayo etc have jobs they want to keep!

There's ZERO chance they risk the embarassment of passing on Maye/Daniels and having one become a franchise QB down the line.

If they don't take a QB this year, there's nobody good coming next draft either. You think Bob Kraft is gonna keep them around after 3 years of Brissett and Zappe?!

I can't actually believe anyone thinks for second we are trading down. And don't mention Bo Nix/Penix our main coaches didn't even go to their pro days.

Curran has been all about trading down, now he's changing his tune? Guess what he's really all about? Clicks.
Well, he's got 145 of them in a pretty short time with many more on the way.

So it’s Daniel’s, Maye, McCarthy.
I wonder if the rumors are true about Wolf pushing to McCarthy?

Well that makes it official then... oh wait

Back when she was SOS Rice was asked and said that her dream job is NYFL Commissioner. I'd take her over Goondell in a heartbeat.

Yep. I think they will likely take a qb at 3 - and should - because I think it UNlikely the offers will be high enough to make it reasonable not to. But funny things happen in the draft. Most years there ARE shockingly generous offers put forward. We'd be silly not to be open to the possibility we might be the beneficiarry of such a rare bird, particularly given it costs us absolutely nothing to keep our ears, and our options, open to such a possibility.
Someone could make them an offer that they can't refuse and they have too many holes not to consider any offer.

For Curran (or any other sports journalist) the beauty of this is, that no matter what happens on April 25, he can link to a previous article/podcast when he predicted the outcome - and then slap himself on the shoulder for making the correct prediction.
Eddie Andelman used to have a bit on Sports Huddle where he'd record himself before a season predicting every team would win. He'd then play the correct one back after the season was over. Curran's tactic is similar.

It's getting to the point where I waffle back and forth from being worried of missing out on Maye, to being terrified of picking him and him turning into a big and shiny piece of crap.

And maybe Daniels is all natural talent, but won't survive the pro game.

When I saw Nix's interview, I started to go back to my position 2 months ago - trade down and get a LT & Nix in the first. With 1 or 2 solid WR's.

I believe that if Denver picks Nix, he might be the most successful rookie QB of the year.
That description of Maye (big and shiny piece of crap) reminds me of Giovanni Carmazzi, the QB that SF took instead of Brady.

There's no way to know which QBs will be successful in the NYFL. That's why top picked QBs fail much more often than not to live up to the hype.

Maye and Mayo has too good a ring to it Kraft can’t help himself.

This! Right here. Of all the reasons to take a prospect with their first round pick this is the best one . Their names almost rhyme.

And they have to make sure they get the extra 1st rounder next year, because they will absolutely need it to package the 3 first round picks together that they will have to use to trade up for a QB in a future Draft.

I thought you guaranteed us that Washington was taking Maye?

Iirc there was even a pinky swear between Kingsbury and Maye involved.

Maye has a cannon for an arm, easily stronger than Daniels and Williams.
You’re right. Maye is a legit first round talent. Williams has the hallmark of a bust and Jaden Daniels will end up being a backup.

I don’t have the exact quote in front of me, but he said on today’s podcast that he’s heard it’s going to take an absurd amount to move the Patriots out of taking a QB at #3, probably even more than three first round picks. So it sounds like they are set at taking someone there, which will quiet any additional speculation about them potentially trading back.

Edit: Here’s the link to the post later in this thread, with the full quote:
Lies lies lies.... Up the price

Yes, Wolfe would be fired after THREE years of failure. You make it sound as if they have only two years if they trade down. If their QB doesn't work out after trading down, they would be forced to sign or trade for a top QB.
