Reactions to “The Dynasty”

Someone besides BB has to know why Butler was benched. I’m more curious now than ever.
Patricia 100% knows. Probably Ernie too, but he'll take it to his grave. Lol

The documentary makes clear Bill didn’t expect or even necessarily want Brady to get so good. He wanted credit for his system and Brady was a real threat to his complete control. Egos always seem to get in the way in stories like these.

Well, it’s been narrowed down to a personal issue Belichick had with him (which is what Kraft said). We can scratch off all the talk about him being sick or not mentally prepared.

What was this personal issue? Seems only Bill and maybe his confidants Patricia and his sons know. It’s unlikely it’s something done at practice as there would be other witnesses to it. Maybe something said to Steve, Patricia, or Bill behind closed doors.

Either way it’s inexcusable that Bill has never told his players or the owner why he benched a starting DB in the SB while his secondary got torched.

Been waiting to just binge watch the whole thing vs. one episode at a time. But just off what I've read and clips I've seen, seems a clear split between the first and second wave of the dynasty. Seems to me that Brady was the guy who connected the two. The older era players talk about him like a kid brother. The later era guys talk him like he's God. The early era guys seem to have total respect for BB and his methods, the later era guys don't get why he had to be the way he was.

I don't think young Brady was good enough to spearhead a dynasty by himself early on. I don't think BB knew how to relate to players well enough by the end. I know it's not popular to come in down the middle but I think Brady needed BB as much early on as BB needed Brady late. There are teams that already did the first wave. Teams already did the second wave. The fact that the team had both back to back is what makes them special and couldn't be done without both.

I think you're the one has things twisted. It was clear Belichick was being undermined in a variety of ways. Slater and McCourty were mostly upset about the Trump stuff. The Brady stuff really blew up about Guerrero. And I have absolutely no idea what you all thought Belichick should have done about Guerrero.

When Kraft undermined Belichick for the 2018 season by bringing back Guerrero, that's when Belichick frosted his relationship with Brady for the next 2 years. He had been undermined.
OK. Where I differ with you is that I put the SB loss to the Eagles as a huge negative for BB. Not playing Butler pissed off the players and especially TFB. Yes, you could say that the other players on the D are responsible for that loss but were Butler to play say after sitting out the opening D series or even Q1, then BOTH the players and the D coaches (including BB) would clearly own that ugly loss.

I enjoyed TFB's huge SB win vs Mahomes even as a BUC.
I loved our Dynastic runs.
Although I have Apple TV+ from reading here I don't want to watch & wallow in the negativity and revisionism expressed.

It's amazing though how some of these grown men were afraid of BB. If they had a problem, why didn't they just have a conversation with him. And I'm referring to the highest paid or best players - Tom Brady in particular.

Wrong. The rumor is Butler had a confrontation with little Steve during practice and Patricia and Bill decided to bench him for disrespecting a coach. That's not a football decision during the most important game of the season. It was personal and 100% on Bill. He cost us the 3-peat.

We've seen Bill do this before with Bennett, who he shipped out to DAL.
You can say Bill overreacted but the personal matter you describe would be Butler's issue and that's all I meant. I know you must hate Bill at every turn but I think you can understand what I mean.

Never had a boss you were afraid of?

No and I didn't have many bosses until I started working for myself. But this is completely different. They are making millions of dollars and more money than their boss. Pat Mahomes could easily call the shots in KC when he's making 5x more per year than his HC and the front office. Tom could have easily done this after they won title #3.

I don't think it is. People are people. These guys are 20 somethings coming out of school, and Bill loved to embarrass everyone, regardless of rank, as we've learned. He thrived on intimidation.

I can tell you I had some real pricks for bosses in my 20s and even into my 30s. It wasn't until I got older that I got to the point I didn't give an eff about them and their ****. Now in my 50s, I am much more apt to tell someone in authority to eff themselves as I am to take grief from them. Luckily, I have good bosses now and don't have that problem. I am sure my experience is not unique, in my industry or in any other.

Wow. A pretty hard hitting last 2 episodes.

Episode 9 - they really showed the damage the 2017 season did to not only the Brady/Belichick relationship but the whole team in general. Slater and McCourty, 2 guys perceived as BB guys, came down hard on him. Everyone was miserable.

They all came down hard on Bill for the SB, but truth be told, he deserved it. The jaw dropper was Kraft saying that something personal had happened between Bill and Butler and for the first time Bill put himself above the team and he blamed Bill for the loss.

Episode 10 - for all the **** Bill got in episode 9 he got all the credit for the Rams SB. They spent a lot of time on that game. Kinda odd they didn’t even mention the strained Brady contract situation but they did gloss over a lot of things in the series. Amazing that Brady and Bill didn’t speak to each other that year. The relationship was dead, and it looks like Bill was trying to force Tom out.

Line of the whole series goes to Amendola: the kid down at Foxboro high could have told ya you don’t get rid of Tom Brady

Loved Brady’s perspective on it. It was perfect, he wouldn’t change a thing. The guy is such a positive person. And it was awesome that they ended it with Brady’s speech at opening game: I’ll always be a Patriot.
So I can't verify it, so I won't put the details that could be untrue out there, but some people I know that work inside the building are strongly under the belief that Butler got benched over something personal totally off the field between Butler and Belichick's son. So Kraft's statement made me think of that.

He's a weasel.

He could have kept Brady if he wanted. Full stop. He could have said to BB: "Look, this is about the fans as much as anything, and they want Brady retiring here, and I want Tommy retiring here. He's staying and he's playing. Make it work."

Instead, he whines. I've lost so much respect for the guy in watching this hit job.

Weasel.

I started losing respect for him during deflategate. And I've been losing more and more respect for him the last few years when he's been opening his mouth. He was certainly more likeable when he was mysterious silent Bob. The old adage about meeting your heroes shines bright with Kraft.

No, he couldn't keep them both. After the '18 SB, Bill showed Bob he could win on D, and convinced him Tom was about to hit the cliff. Bob made a decision (which he regrets) to keep Bill. Things were too dysfunctional for both to stay. Tom said so himself, he wasn't going to sign a new contract, the way things had gone, and he was done with it. It was either Bill or Tom. Bob chose Bill.

Agree. Bob was like "you don't want to pay him for 2 years? Good, I don't to either and I'll let you take the heat for it!" There are certain times Owners can meddle - that was one of them, but Bob clearly didn't want him either.

Where was Tom's power when Branch was traded and Givens was allowed to walk in 2006? Moss was set to be traded to the Packers, but he blocked it and preferred going to the Pats in 2007.

Where was Tom when Seymour was traded in 2009?

How about Moss in 2010?

No help in 2013?

Butler in 2017 Super Bowl?

Gronk trade to Detroit?

Tom was such a threat.

I learned very quickly in my 20's that I can't work for anyone. In my late 20's before I started working for myself, I had to deal with an ******* employee (a lot older than me) who was mad I was making friends with one of the only women in the office during my first week. He ran into me outside when I was alone and told me he's going to get me fired because I'm talking to that woman too much. I laughed it off and responded if the boss has a problem with it, I'm sure I'll hear from him. But what he wasn't expecting to follow was me letting him know he better not ever talk to me like that ever again. His demeanor quickly changed and realized his intimidation he's done in the past wasn't going to fly with me.

Aside from that, I've had pretty nice bosses who didn't try to intimidate and did everything they could so I could do the best of my ability.
