Draft bust like McDaniels' other pick Chad Jackson or Aaron Dobson. Physical specimens with zero route running ability

Hoping for the best for him this year. He’s really likable.

He's got the skills to pay the bills. I hope he does and am cautiously optimistic.

He'll probably be better w Stidham than w Sad Tom .. Sad Tom didn't throw to him if he was open...Harry runs 7.5 yard out instead of 8 yards, Sad Tom sees him open, passes up Harry 1 on 1 w daylight and throws 20 yards down field to Edelman in bracket coverage

Lets hope he didn't permanently hurt himself typing

My worry with Harry was always that he couldn't get open regularly in the Pac 12 without being schemed open. Yes, the Patriots do more scheming guys open than probably any team in football, but he was supposed to be good at contested catches and he got knocked off routes a couple times last year, that one time screwing up a slant and causing a pick.

I'm willing to write off last year to injury and see what he'll bring this year and hope for a DJ Chark-like emergence in year 2 with a full camp and new quarterback. At the very least he can be a Cordarrelle Patterson type, a threat on jet sweeps and screens that the defense has to account for. There's value in that - Patterson played a much bigger role in the offense two years ago than his stat sheet reflected - even if you're ideally looking for a true stud WR in round 1.

Next up Chad Jackson reminisces about getting the call from a funny looking 617 area code.

He’s working his azz off right now while in quarantine mode I’ll give him that...working with a trainer and coach HARD in prep for this year (there are a few videos out there I will try to find) ....he’s got a great work ethic and is passionate about proving himself and improving at position....wish him best of luck and hope he comes thru as a great O weapon

There was a play last year, maybe against the Texans -- I think it may even have been that Hoss Juke play, where the outside receiver is supposed to run a hitch. Harry runs the route, but the corner is sitting on the hitch. What does he do now?

Earlier in the game Harry ran a poor slant route and got outfought for a pick. Brady went ape. So now Harry is in a different situation, staring at a corner who is sitting on his route. He was probably thinking: "If I run a go here and Tom throws to the hitch, and it gets picked, Tom is going to stab me to death on the field." So he just does what he's told and runs the hitch, which turns out to be the wrong thing also.

Back in the huddle Brady doesn't even look at the kid. Then he throws a fit on the sidelines on national TV. Harry's confidence by then is shot.

This was terrible leadership and exactly why it was time for Brady to go. The Patriots for 20 years had moved on from vets on the downsides of their careers, and replaced them with guys on rookie contracts who couldn't do it as well at first. It's the only way to manage a team if you're planning on competing every year -- you have to cycle through some of those mistakes to allow the cheaper talent to learn.

But Brady was out of patience with coaching up young talent, even when it was by necessity (they were supposed to be leaning on Gordon and AB last year). So he regularly dogged these kids on national TV, throwing his hands in the air, rolling his eyes, etc. This is all the stuff we used to jump on Peyton Manning about.

In preseason it was so obvious that both of the other quarterbacks really enjoyed the young receivers, particularly Meyers. Hoyer came in and on Harry's first play threw him a 50-50 ball, which he caught. Stidham gave Meyers a ton of chances to make plays. Brady meanwhile was bromancing with psychopath Antonio Brown, whose huge salary incidentally handcuffed the team from making any other additions.

Brady is a great player, but he's changed. He once really loved and supported whoever he was in the huddle with. Now he's selective in doling out respect.

Harry is going to be just fine with a different quarterback.

Yes, I believe it was against CB Bradley Roby vs HOU.

Right, Roby played it perfectly. And Roby was the guy who beat him on the slant for the pick too. Harry ran a crap route for sure, but it was also clear the Texans knew the plays. Just found the clip -- Roby even set up with outside leverage to bait Brady and ran right around Harry to the inside, which you wouldn't do if you were worried at all about the receiver running past you or breaking out. Harry absolutely should have fought with all his might to box Roby out but he was still in rookie mode and thinking about trying to create a target for Tom to hit. Just a rookie play, doesn't realize the route is blown from the start. Understandable. But Brady threw a fit, which serves what purpose exactly?

Because, in your own words, Harry was stuck "still in rookie mode". You need to get through to him, to have him realize that he needs to THINK and DO HIS JOB.

Nothing wrong with having vocal team leaders who make people accountable for their mistakes. It forces you to learn FAST to make fewer mistakes.

As an adult, think back to the very best teachers that you ever had as a kid. Were they easy, or tough?

Just to be clear, so you think throwing a tantrum on national TV got through to Harry? I agree there is nothing wrong with firm, verbal instruction, accountability, and fiery teaching, but none of that happened. It was a temper tantrum.

Who was allowed to throw a tantrum to get through to Brady for throwing the pick? If the play was over before it started because Roby knew it, did Harry take the snap and throw it to Roby? I am pretty sure Tom still threw it. He did not have to put the ball in the spot. Harry stunk on the play and so did Brady. An incompletion would have been Harry's fault. The pick is Tom's fault.

So if you watch the announcement by Goodell of the Harry selection he says "the New England Patriots select...." yet last night when KC picked he said "the Super Bowl Champion KC Chiefs select...." What a petty f&ck.

Who was allowed to throw a tantrum to get through to Brady for throwing the pick?
Belichick, McDaniels (remember O'Brien), Slater, other team captains, and I am sure that Brady himself curses what he did, when reviewing the film. Anyone too thin-skinned to deal with harsh, vocal, and sometimes public criticism (also self-criticism) needs to find another line of work besides pro sports.

But I did not disagree with any of that. The temper tantrum accomplished nothing except to make Brady look like Peyton and miss the opportunity to constructively teach the rookie to understand the offense. The tantrum was stupid. Brady is responsible for the pick.

Irrespective of Brady being checked out, NKeal Harry is like other McDaniels draft busts, physical specimens with zero route running skill and cannot get open. It was obvious last year he can only get the ball off gimmick plays, the kid is a bust.

.

The Aaron Dobson twitter rants last night feels like a cautionary tale for Harry. Dobson and Harry are not that different. I think the only thing Harry really needs is to build some confidence on the field. Brady is not there to get angry with him. Bill might, but Bill is always grumpy so it’s not as big of a deal.

I wasn't crying that night...In fact I wrote later that I "loved" the pick...But I'm crying now...
