Quinn's press conference comments on Alex Mack: "I'm concerned, but not panicked."

As a Falcons fan, this is game changing news. His absence would reduce our win chance by 50%. As I stated in an earlier post, Quinn doesn't play games with injury news, he considers it an issue of player respect. You can be sure this is a major issue.

On page 14 of this thread you can see my breakdown of how this impacts both the offensive and defensive lines (the backup center is normally in our DT rotation).

That would be a concern for Atlanta and a boon for the Patriots.

The Ringer has an excellent article on how huge Mack has been for that offense, with lots of video breakdown. His health is a key factor.

So does anyone think BB will dress 5 wrs? Maybe floyd has figured out this playbook. I also like him because he can block lol

Been thinking about this all week. To me it makes sense that you do. Assuming Mitchell is healthy, he has been solid for us and seems to have Brady's trust. Plus, he has been good in the redzone. Floyd is big and physical and can stretch the field, which would be a good weapon to have. The thing is, who is inactive so that Floyd can play? Maybe one of our special teams guys like King, Mingo, Grissom, or Bolden? Or maybe Lengel cause Fleming could like up at TE to block?

I asked the same question before, who is inactive if all the 5 receivers are good to go. Mingo was one option that people mentioned and I would agree with that. Not sure how much he would be missed on ST.

This was discussed again and again. There is no good way of making 5 WRs active without substantially affecting ST and that's the last thing you want to do. Mingo, King, Grissom and Bolden are core members of the ST and play all 4 units. In the words of Mike Reiss they are untouchable.

The only remotely possible option is to inactivate Lengal, but the problem is obvious. He is the only real TE depth we have...

I just don't see a scenario where we will have 5 WRs active. ST are too valuable to gamble on.

I'm pretty sure we heard about how "ready" they were when they went out and put up 14 and 17 in the losses to the NYG, and if the recent last second win vs SEA is any indicator of how insanely prepared they were or whether or not practice should be canceled, I'd much rather see them on the field tomorrow.

I thought we heard already a few times how in 07 they had the worst week of practice right before the SB. I still vividly remember reading that BB said
Fellas today the Giants got ahead of you.

in some Reiss article a few years ago.

Be like water, be deaf. We'll know when the game starts.

Mack will absolutely try to play. You don't play for Cleveland your entire career and not give it a go when you finally get to the Super Bowl. He's a tough guy.

Alan Branch is a wily vet having a terrific year, and will be lined up directly over Mack. I would be very surprised if he didn't step on his leg several times.

I thought Mack was much closer to playing. Good on Atlanta's staff for the misdirection.

Playing Julio Jones on scout team is not the best sign/preparation to play on Sunday.

Of course sharing it with Slater can indicate the opposite:

Why two jerseys for Julio?
“That’s such a key guy for us, the routes and all that,” Belichick said. “We have two guys doing it so we won’t wear one guy out.”

This is what he said to Reiss yesterday:

“I think you have to approach each and every week the same. You have to prepare yourself like you’re going to play, and I think that’s something I do every single week, because you never know what can happen in a practice or anything,” he said. “You just have to make sure that you’re prepared, so whatever happens, you’re the next man up and the speed of the game won’t be a letdown for you.”
_____

This would all lean more to being inactive again .. then again BB's got to have some surprise up his sleeve and Id be certainly glad to see Floyd active.

Super Bowl practice report: Patriots use 2 WRs to mimic Julio Jones

Yeah, Marty sounds like he knows this is his last game as a Patriot.

I do hope he returns, but we still have Gronk and this upcoming draft is TE heavy.

Whatever decision he makes, let's hope he can get the Pats and himself a ring this Sunday.
The good thing is that, if he's got half a brain, he'll realize that a great performance on Sunday will be money in his pocket. A big mistake could cost him beaucoup bucks.

Alex Mack will be the only news I'm interested in for the next 2.5 days. He has to be close to right. If he isn't I believe our game plan on offense changes drastically. We will try to control the ball on the ground and throw quick possession type passes. Basically we will be in our 3rd and short offense the whole game. Plenty of 13 personnel, etc. We've had good success with that scheme, its just that you have to run soooo many plays. If we pull it off, you end up looking at a 21-20 type game instead of the shootout we all expect.

Not sure what you are intimating but I don't think effort or consistency is problem with Bennett.
