Pats release Leigh Bodden

This is confusing to me. I don't get it, but then again, I don't really get anything that the Pats have done with the secondary this year. Arrington's been playing great, so I'm sure that has a lot to do with it, but even as the 3rd or 4th CB for the remainder of the season, I'd think that Bodden was at least worth a roster spot.

Hopefully Dowling stays healthy and Molden is ready to play.

We're an injury away from Molden being a starting corner.

That is the guy good pull

where is he at? He signed w/ who?

he never signed anywhere so he is still a free agent. If they were going to bring him back it most likely would have been done after they cut the big bang clock

There has to be a reason why McGowan was not picked up...there are many teams with a horrid Safety corps

My guess is he is out of shape and not NFL worthy now.

If the Colts didn't call him,no one will.

Possibly a rift between Bodden and Belichick over Arrington getting most of the snaps?

Some guys refuse to sit on the bench and not start....could be one of those situations.

2 Years in a row now with a shocker cut...Bodden this year and Moss last year..IMO I think both situations involved malcontents, not contract problems.

Apparently no one is safe after the bye week these days

I agree. I am sure Belichick didn't like the thought of eating his salary. However, Bodden is in a fantasy land if he thinks he can be a starting corner.

Well, I read all of this stuff and I sure hope the Patriots PR staff puts this in front of that Belichick guy. Because from what I read here, that fella sure has a lot to learn.

How would they have known?

When you have a rookie QB the caliber of Newton breaking all sorts of records and a near lock for ROTY putting up points every game and you have 1 win,it usually means that defense is not doing its job....

If Butler is a shining spot on that D,I wonder how horribly bad the rest of those Panther defensive players are.

Butler a key player in CAROLINA? LOL... people here want to see him do something good like make BIG plays, but guess what? That will not happen. He was no good here let him start for a scrubbier Defensive team than we have:D He did NOTHING here and could NOT tackle

The play from Bodden this year that jumps out at me is this one from the Bills game:

Jump to 1:21 in

That's a major-league misread by someone of his veteran stature.

Granted this play is quite egregious, but perhaps there was a lot more of miscues by him, just more subtle. Maybe they really show up on coaches film.

Due to the depth (or lack thereof) situation, I'm surprised he was let go, but not completely surprised.

Regards,
Chris

Gee, I hope BB has a plan for our secondary and this wasn't just a random "Bill being Bill" moment. We all know how prone to kneejerk, not well thought out moves he can be. ;)

In Bill we trust indeed!

I saw this coming. Don't ask me how, but he just did not appear to be spending a lot of time watching film. He and Edelman are always talking going to watch the next movie out.

Some of you think this is ridiculous, but look at Mayo, BB's son, the moniker they have given him in the dressing room. He is a football player and nothing else. Those are the players BB want now. No bull****ting about. If you guys think he is supposed to have some off time to himself doing whatever, now he has all the time to tweet as much as he wants.
I like this move. We are number 32 in rank defense, can we go any lower? Next man up.

Could you please let me know when the league went from using points to determine games to using Yards allowed to determine games? thanks in advance..

I wonder if BB is making room for a Welker extension?

The Pats already have a ton of money to give Welker an extension.

Also, the Pats are on the hook for approx. $3.43M against the Cap and that would increase to the full $5.5 million should Bodden clear waivers. And it puts 3 million into dead money next year.

There is no cap savings this year unless someone picks Bodden up off waivers, which isn't likely to happen.

In Arrington we trust!

Yeah, I changed my opinion of him......

Nope. Just because I wasn't around in 09 or when he got his extension doesn't mean I didn't have that opinion of him back then.

Bodden was never that good. He was released by the 0-16 Lions for christ sake. If he didn't have 5 interceptions (3 coming from one game vs. Sanchez) in 2009 some other people would have realized this.

If you don't like my opinions, here you go: Ignore Me

The problem with your statement is that Bodden played better than you are giving him credit for in '09. But, it's clear that you focus too much on the stats and not enough on the actual game play to understand that.

Arrington's been playing more because he's been playing better, if Bodden's pissed because of that he should have worked harder and played better, this move doesnt surprise me at all, he's been awful this year.
