Idle Thoughts - Day 1

Stephen Neal retirement
Dan Connolly sucks
Nick Kaczur recovery from back surgery
Matt Light unrestricted free agent
Logan Mankins franchise tag
Dan Koppen last year of contract

Doesn't that make your worry?

To be fair to Reflexblue, interior o-line is much more of an issue than the tackle positions, unless Light has told the Patriots to pound sand.

I sure didn't have Solder at the top of my agenda.
Offensive line is a high priority for the New England Patriots in the 2011 NFL Draft. If the New England Patriots traded down from 17 and selected Carimi ahead of the Chicago Bears, then Vollmer moves to left tackle, Carimi to right tackle. Thus the New England Patriots would have no worse than additional draft pick in the third round today trading down from 17.

Just heard Krafty Jonathan selling the bill of goods on this Richard Seymour for Nate Solder trade...wow, and I cannot believe people are buying it. Ordway took it, hook, line, and sinker. But some of us who spend upwards of $2,000 per year on our season tickets aren't as easily sold on it.
I like Kraft and Belichick talking about "value" - how 'bout offering the consumer some value and charging so much for parking? Or concessions? Or the air we breathe at the games? :D\
Krafty Jonathan had a smarmy, condescending air about him today, almost as though he couldn't believe the Pats pick/draft strategy is being mocked league-wide and fans are irate....I really hope they instill some confidence in this team with today's picks. If they trade more into next year's draft fans should be royally pissed off....

Unless Light has told the Patriots to pound sand.
That may very well be the case.

I would have preferred to trade down from 17 and selected Gabe Carimi from Wisconsin ahead of the Chicago Bears. Vollmer moves to left tackle, Carimi to right tackle, Kaczur to right guard. Meanwhile, the New England Patriots do own three second round draft picks. Hopefully, Stephen Wisniewski slids into the second half of the second round.

And I'd argue that except for a handful of games the O-line was pretty good last year, they pats were #1 in offense last year. On the other hand the Dline was getting run over most of the time and Wilfork had to play out of position.

Absolutely. The DL/OLB is the biggest need on this team for several years now and it's been a need that BB has largely ignored.
For fans to claim otherwise is silly.
The Patriots need IMPACT players to take this team to the next (i.e. actually winning playoff games) level. Love them or hate them but the Jets draft the way I wish the Patriots would. Target your impact player and go get him.
How confused is BB?? He stockpiles draft picks but never uses them to move UP in the draft to get quality.
HOF QB Tom Brady has papered over a lot of bad Bill Belichick drafts. Sadly that Brady clock is running out as BB plays his little draft games and does NOT improve his team with 2 1st round draft choices. Unreal!

Ordway played the setup man in that interview. It was not one of his finest moments.

One thing that doesn't get much mention is the advantage that having multiple Round 1 picks gives you in the RFA market. Doesn't hurt so much to give up an "extra" 1st if you pick up a desired RFA which was probably our best chance at a SOLID OLB all along. Tamba Hali comes to mind.

Jonathan Kraft looks like he is in constant need of a wedgie, nougie, titty-twister combo.

And thats wonderful, but clearly the Patriots thought that Solder was significantly more talented that Carimi, that it was worth not doing that.
