Thanks to Barstoolsports.com for the title.

In any case, I figured I'd create a thread to link articles talking about Cassel trades.

First: Mike Lombardi on Cassel's trade value:

    (A) Above 15 = higher than 15.
    (B) 5.05? Really? What does it say that O'Connell ran a 4.6?

Second: Mike Lombardi on possible Cassel destinations.

Almost forgot the best quote of all, from Boomer Esiason:

Maybe that's why he signed the tender?

i like lombardi but cassel for 1st rounder above 15 AND a 2nd rounder is too much frankly. probably the reason lombardi isnt a GM anymore. A first rounder for cassel itself is good enough if we get it.

It'll be too obvious if we trade in 3 weeks. We should wait a bit longer so there are no issues concerning the tag and trade.

    No Jersey Selected

I will not want him to go to the Jets........

I like MC and want to wish him well. On the Jets I'll want him sacked every time he drops back.

There's a better chance of you or I stealing Gisele from TFB than there is of Matt Cassel playing for the JEST in 2009. :)

Actually, the chances of Cassell going to the Jets are better than 1-in-31.

With all due respect to my wife, I like those odds with Giselle ... ;)

A number of the 32 teams in the NFL are set at QB. Absent a devastating injury in the very near future to the incumbent, Cassell is not -- for example -- going to Indy or Pitt.

And the Pats, while perhaps reluctant to send a good and well-coached QB to a division rival, would in my opinion indeed do so for sufficient compensation.

OK. I figured you were talking in that sense.

Just because the JEST are, say, one of five teams interested in Cassel does not mean the JEST have a one in five chance of getting him. In fact, I would say the odds of the Patriots trading him now that he's signed the tender are basically zero.

I'd trade him for the Jets 1st round pick in each of the next 10 years. :D
Given how prone to overpaying their FO is, it's not totally out of the question that they would go crazy over him. Look what ridiculous deals they gave Favre, Calvin Pace, Gholston, etc. Frankly, I wouldn't wish Cassel on the Jets for his own sake - the organization is very dysfunctional and the pressure of playing in NY would not be the best thing for him. Plus they need help at WR.

I know this isn't a popular opinion, but Cassel going to The Jets could be one of the BEST possible outcomes for us. Yeah, I like the guy and would be bummed to root for Seymour to bury him in the dirt twice a year, but it's like the old saying goes, the devil you know is better than the devil you don't.

To be more specific, I'd hate for NYJ to have a good quarterback, but a good quarterback that we know EVERYTHING there is to know about? That's a pretty serious advantage. BB has evaluated Cassel extensively for the last 4 years. He knows his strengths, he know his weaknesses. Hell, Belicheck was the only one who knew that Cassel was worth keeping after pre-season.

Couple all that with the fact that if we got the maximum compensation that the tag implies (two 1st rounders) we'd keep them out of the 1st round for two years!

the good thing is the only way we would trade him to the jets would be if they gave us mass compensation. Probably 2 1st and another pick.

Quarterbacks face an unsettled landscape - NFL - Yahoo! Sports

Jason Cole on Yahoo seems highly confident Warner stays with the Cards, and almost as confident that Collins stays with the Titans.

He points out that at least Leinart could hit the market as a result.

What he actually says about Cassel is nothing new.

There are no issues. As long as we don't try to keep him and get him to accept less than the tender amount, we are acting in good faith.

As is the K.C. Kid's Used Runningback Emporium (as of right now, it's like 5 items down: NFL.com Blogs Around The Web )

Evidently what's left of Larry Johnson wants out.

Not that we'd have a use for another runningback. I mean, who wants more runningbacks in NE? That's crazy talk.

And as we all know Anquan Boldin really, really, really wants out of 'Zona. But he wants to keep playing with the same guys. Whatever that means. Just a side note.

    Okay sorry, no hijack intended.

Peter King thinks Matt Cassel won't be a Patriot this fall--but doesn't say where he will go, except that he doesn't expect Pioli to be interested.

No. But I do think it's more than 1 in 31.

Would you really bet your $750 against my $25 to say the Jets WON'T get him?

Knowing your enemy is not that great of an advantage if you can't stop what he's doing. The Pats know Chad Pennington about as well as any QB in the league because of the number of times they have faced him, but he still manages to burn them, no matter which uniform he dons (Jets or Dolphins). So that's not really a big advantage imo. We'd still be giving NYJ a really good QB. And I think we'd prefer not to have to face him twice per year on a division rival.

The ideal trade would send Cassel out of the conference. But we've seen the Pats willing to trade in division if the comp is good enough, see Drew Bledsoe. However I think the market for Cassel will be hotter than it was for Drew so they should be able to ship him away without sending him to a division rival and making them even stronger.
