Last year we obviously didn't prize the #3 seed (or a date with Pittsburgh) enough to justify going full-strength against Miami last year. One thing that may fly under the radar is that we could have been avoiding Denver as well. If your #3, you play #2 if you win...and that would have guaranteed us matchups with Pittsburgh and Denver on the way to the AFC title game (likely in Indy). As it turned out the Pats did go to Denver and the rest is painful history.

This year, on the other hand, we have the opportunity to guarantee that we DO play the toughest wild-card team in Denver, and that is only guaranteed by resting starters and not going full-strength against Tennessee. Honestly, is it worth the risk of losing key personnel to win a game that might end up being meaningless if Indy beats Miami (and likely will)? That Jags game was as physical as they come and frankly our guys need the rest (especially Brady).

I believe this year we will be sending a different message in Week 17 - we aren't intimidated by the Broncos or their history against us and will not shy away from another matchup. Bring 'em on.

That is probably our best bet. No matter what, we will need to go through 2 out of the group of SD, Baltimore and Indy on the way to the Super Bowl. Beating Denver is a test that this team is up to that challenge.

I don't know. I like the thought of always having the highest possible seed on the outside chance that you parlay it into a home game in the AFCCG.

That's always motivation, I agree. Though I look at the other 3 teams likely playing wild-card weekend (Indy, Denver, Jets) and I don't see them making it through SD or Baltimore.
