??? Cassel has three full quarters of NFL experience against Miami's first string defense. O'Connell has none.I really have a tough time completely discounting O'Connell's experience actually playing in college over Cassell's experience holding a clip board in college and the pros.
If you are trying to say that because a guy did well in college he will do well in hte pros, start with Ryan Leaf and Rick Mirer and Heath Shuler and look at half the QBs drafted high in hte NFL.
And they came from top football colleges. O'Connell didn't.
I like O'Connell, but to compare his NFl experience with Cassel's is ludicrous.
ANY NFL QB who has held a clipboard for a year has more NFL "experience" than O'Connell. You think they are nothing out there? They are watching defenses, seeing the presnap look, and watching what happens afterward. Watching how NFL QBs go through their reads. Sitting in on NFL team plannng meetings. Do not discount a year of sitting for a rookie QB. It is agruably the best way to prepare them for the NFL.
Peyton Manning was 3-13 in his first season. He's a top QB, but it's tough to be a rook QB in hte NFL unless you are on a team with an overpowering runnng game like teh Steelers.
