I believe we would be looking at our 4th SuperBowl by now.

Talent-wise, I believe Maroney is better than Addai. I can remember a few great runs that Laurence had. However, Addai is a great NFL rusher. I define it by always getting the needed yardage for first downs. Addai cannot and will not break a lot of long runs like Maroney, but Addai would not dance behind the line so much either. Addai will just get the ball and run into the hole following his linemen. Always getting the 3-4-5 yards he needed to move the chain.

The problem with Maroney since his college day is that he is a great runner, but he dance too much and try too much to cut-back. He has to see the holes and go into it. Do not hestitate too much. I believe on one of the interviews last year by WEEI, Maroney said that Coach B told him not to cut back. (way back when Maroney is the best runner of the NFL days, so I don't understand why at that time) Now, I know why Coach B said that after seeing Maroney dance forever behind the line in the playoff.

We were 15 cases of the flu away from the SB with Maroney...

Put the Colt offense around Maroney and you easily get a 1,000 rusher. They're both good.

    Worth noting....

The press jumped off the Maroney bandwagon and onto the Addai 'wagon. Both are good backs and both played in two back systems. Addai was the bruiser when he came in and Rhodes was the slasher. Dillon was the bruiser and Maroney was the slasher.

Both lose the veteran of their combo, so your answer to which is better will be more evident after next season.

If we drafted Addai, he would've put up the same type of numbers for us that Maroney put up, and Maroney would've rushed for 1,200 yards for Indianapolis.

Re: What if we draft Addai last year ?

Talent wise Maroney is definitely better. Only if he doesn't dance in the back field too much. I noticed Addai had never hestitated. He took the ball and dived right in the hole (sometimes he slim through it, sometimes he got tackled, some times he broke tackles...) However, there's no dancing around with Addai.

Did Maroney really get enough carries last year to draw a conclusion that he dances too much? I didn't see him obviously nearly as much as you guys, but I still think he's gonna be a special player.

Re: What if we draft Addai last year ?

The 'Maroney dances too much' line is a bunch of bull. There have been runs where he's actually pulled back from a sure loss or no-gain and found daylight for a first down.

I agree. I am so tired of this ****. Did those naysayers at all ever see the dancing? I know I did, he took his handoffs, took a step either left or right, then was usually gang tackled. Now, I am not a Maroney ballwasher, but if he was with the Colts last yr he woudve looked incredible. Give Addai all the credit he deserves, and give maroney the credit he deserves, but there is no way in hell you can compare the two.
Two totally different systems, totally different personnel and one OC with way more experience than the other. If you're going to ? anything about Maroney have some stats and not your personal opinion.

Addai is already "great?" Please. Using that word is a tremendous knock against the truly great players that have played, or still are playing. Addai is good, he's not even close to great after his first season in the league...And Maroney doesn't dance, he averages 4+ yards per carry.

Maroney was injured the last part of last year, he had bruised ribs or a similar injury which prohibited him from being as effective as he was in the first part of the year. To say that Joseph Addai on our team would have led to another SB trophy is very faulty reasoning.

Re: What if we draft Addai last year ?

maroney would have been rookie of the year running for 6 ypc.

I'm far from the biggest maroney fan, as i think way too many pats fans have prematurely anointed him a great back. But if you put him behind that (holding) line with that passing attack keeping the defense honest he'd have been a beast.

Addai is a nice back but it is way too early to declare him better.

Re: What if we draft Addai last year ?

absolutely. his "slow down" at the end of the season was injury related (the painful rib injury that BB described as "he had the wind knocked out of him") if you look at his stats for the last few games, his yards per average were actually better, on less usage, than earlier in the season when everyone was on his bandwagon.

Re: What if we draft Addai last year ?

    Addai 1
    Maroney 0

I have never seen a RB get blown up behind the LOS and get driven backwards as much as LM. It seems that there is a certain Patriots fanboy element that is counting on potential verses rookie year reality. Addai assimilated into the feature back role quite effectively while LM left many to question if he can carry the load.

You must not watch much football then.

And if you're really questioning whether Maroney can carry the load... well then you're just reinforcing my previous assertion.

Re: What if we draft Addai last year ?

The knee jerk reactions some people have are hilarious. You want to judge two backs after playing one year in entirely different situations and systems. The Colts had a much better passing game this year, that obviously helped open things up for Addai. Even a Colts fan is saying it is too early to really know much about them. Some people are acting like Maroney was terrible last year. He averaged 4.3 yards per carry for God's sake! He was a rookie who had to deal with injuries and people stacking the box. It's like if a player doesn't make an absolutely seamless transition from college to the NFL he's worthless. Be reasonable.

Getting "blown up" behind the line of scrimmage would suggest the OLine missed assignments. Watch a game or two, you will realize how wrong you are.
