I was just thinking about this. He's been great for such a long time, but recently, he's just become Sapp-esque. What do you guys think about Big Vince's HOF potential?

This is the second worst thread of the day.

Wilfork will be in the HOF in the first year he is eligible. Only Brady is more HOF eligible than Wilfork.

    Bianca agrees!

I for one admit I am not man enough to tell Bianca she's wrong, which she isn't.

Vince is a monster. One of the few keepers of the rings left. A great leader with so many big plays. Could you imagine getting hit like Jones did?!! YIKES!

I said as much out loud to an empty room after his forced fumble. He's been among the top guys at his position for a decade, and his beast mode is as epic as anyone's.

If VW isn't HOF-worthy then the HOF voting process is hugely flawed.

there's pretty stiff competition at DLine in this generation of players. Seymour, KWilliams and Ngata probably will go in ahead of Vince. After that he's in a group with Hampton, Pat Williams, Jay Ratliff, maybe one or two others. I think he can get in but he's borderline in my mind.

I don't think Seymour is ahead on merit, even though he plays a role that allows for some more stats.

He is, however, ahead in terms of age/seniority.

I think Vince is better than all those guys.

Looking at the play on the field I don't think Vince is that far off those guys, but accolades matter and those guys are the big award winners from this generation. Wilfork only has 3 pro bowls and 0 all pro teams on his resume. Look at the inside DLineman who are in the hall of fame, if you add up the PB and AP teams for each guy, the least any inductee has is 9 PB+AP. Vince has a combined 3. KWilliams = 11, Seymour = 10, Ngata = 5 (and he's only 27, he'll surpass 10 easily).

WTF are you talking about? Ngata won't even be HOF eligible by the time Wilfork is on the ballot.

He's a contemporary to Wilfork. The voters will know Ngata will be coming soon after Wilfork. If they only want to induct 2-3 interior DLinemen in this 'era' they will pass over Wilfork if they know they will be voting for Ngata.

    Get it?

Although I agree with the sentiment there hqs never been a NT voted into the HOF, so saying it is a lock first ballot is over the top. However I agree he deserves it and his numbers have no relation to his value whatsoever. Wilfork is, and always has been a dominant player, and that is what really matters when it comes to the HOF. If you are simply better than the rest during your era then you should be in, and Wilfork meets that standard. he spent most of his career double teamed, and he is still a force in pretty much every game he is in, he deserves first ballot, but qon't likely get it.

    I doubt he gets in.

I love Vince, and feel he deserves a spot, but he just doesn't produce the highlights for it.

Being a fundamentally sound, ultimate run stopper isn't what the people want.

1 ~ Really?? You think that the best Nose Tackle in the Game might be worthy of the Hall of Fame??

2 ~ Did you just compare Big Vince to Warren The Gap Shooting 3 Tech Sapp?? [IMG]

Wilfork should go down as one of the dominant defensive linemen of this era. I worry a little bit about his hall candidacy, just because his particular brand of greatness is easy for people who don't actually watch him to overlook, but I do think that he'll ultimately make it. Maybe not first ballot, but at some point.

Highly unlikely, but thats just an indication that the HoF is not the best statement about who the best players in football are or were.

For instance, Wes Welker is the best slot receiver of the past 20 years, but he probably won't make it to the HOF.

unfortunately he probably wont because his contributions to the defense are far greater than his numbers suggest. hes not a sack guy or a ridiculous tackle number guy...hes a lane-clogger, a run-stopper, and a double-team-drawer that allows everyone else on the dline more freedom to do what they need to.

but like said...his numbers arent ridiculous...so he probably wont be...which is a shame.

Offensive Linemen are in Canton. If their careers can be evaluated for their actions, then that criteria should be applied to Wilfork.

Not yet and certainly not a first ballot. Lets see what he does with the rest of his career. That bar is so high right now, especially when you look at stats like Charles Haley who is still waiting to get in. Shoot, John Randle couldn't even get in on his first try and he was in the 100 sack club as a DT.

I say he has got a shot if he stays healthy, maybe wins a championship or 2 and decides he wants to play longer than he should. I don't think his stats will ever truly stand up to some of those guys that are in there now and the voters would have too know his disruptive worth. Problem is without stats so many great players get lost because the voters live in the now and forget the past.

When you really sit down and see the list of players that are in and some of the great ones that aren't that you think should be, you can really see why it is such an honor to be selected.

Hall Of Fame????????..are you kidding??? Nose tackles are NOT supposed to be making bone crunching, game changing destructive hits, they should NEVER cause fumbles by destroying opposing ball carriers and they most definitely should not be making hits like that one Vince put on Fred Jackson...and then he has the gall to celebrate it as jackson crumpled to the field dazed battered, bruised and beaten...I think we should all get together in the "Spikes is too slow and has to go!!!" and add in Vince.....get him out of here ASAP...Hall of Famer...jeeez..[IMG]

Did anyone else notice during the Bills game when they tried to take advantage of him on the sideline? They attempted a no-huddle run attack to keep him on the sidelines during a series in the 2nd half. I would have done the same thing if I was the opposing coach, but you know a player is good when the opposing team will change their game plan to take advantage of him being off the field...

The fumble recovery he had right before half time was huge! That could have been the dagger...

After BB shows Wilfey's versatility playing him at strong safety a few series, he'll be a lock
