as stated this is a "view". Just been pondering a lot of things since the loss this past Sunday. Of course, I've run through the standard emotions of the sky is falling, etc. However, once I let my emotions run it course, I objectively realize that the NFL is game of multiple seasons (pre, regular, post) and the goal is to get to the post season and get hot so you can hoist the SB trophy.
I think this years team has showed a lot of mental strength and ability to overcome adversity and we have the weapons to make noise still. We're a great coached team, with the GOAT QB. I think there's a chance still....
With that said, it got me thinking about what the NFL has become in this age of salary cap and parity. Long winning streaks are hard/rare to come by. I decided to look up the # of games the super bowl winners since 2000 have won to claim the title:
2012 - Ravens - 4
2011 - Giants - 6
2010 - Packers - 6
2009 - Saints - 3
2008 - Steelers - 4
2007 - Giants - 4
2006 - Colts - 5
2005 - Steelers - 8
2004 - Patriots - 5
2003 - Patriots - 15
2002 - Bucaneers - 4
2001 - Patriots - 9
2000 - Ravens - 11
The average is 6.5 but heavily skewed by patriots and ravens in early 2000's. The average is just 5 games if you look at 2005 - 2013.
So, while we lost the game this past Sunday, maybe...just maybe from a statistical distribution stand point, we need it.
If we win the next 5 games - we are champs.
If we had won out including last Sunday, that would have been 9 straight wins.
maybe the loss re-fortifies this team to handle the post-gronk season...forces them to play strong come playoff time.
anyway, just early-week pondering to make the week go by.
