Do you think these guys reappearing this year makes the team better or just poorer?

I'm not talking about who goes to let them in, just whether they can step in and take away a role from a younger guy or if they'd have to fight for a spot.

    Disable Jersey

Well, with Tank out, the team is short a safety. I guess Law could come in and try to fill that role. It'd be a bit of a time crunch, though.

I don't think it makes the team weaker at all, but the two situations are different. Law wants money. He could definately help the team. Bryant played every game last year but only 22 the previous three, so a 3rd quality vet at the position wouldn't be a bad thing. There are enough injuries and missed games throughout the year where it's worth it and everyone would get playing time. Plus so many teams use multiple receiver sets anyway that you really need 3 and perhaps 4 quality corners.

And even if you think Law's skills have diminished, which they have, he's still better than most of what we have back there now. If he came back he would be an asset. The question is money, and whether he is willing to not play again, or if he will take less than he is demanding at some point.

Seau's case is different. Whether he comes back or not probably depends on whether Belichick things the lateround/undrafted LBs have starting LB potential in the future and how Hobson plays.

So yes, I think both of them can play another year, both could help. But there's definately more to it than that.

They both could help. I wouldn't pay Law what he wants but if he wants to come back at a premium, I'd love to have him. The guy is Peyton Manning's kryptonite.

Seau said he'd either play with us or retire. I'd say the only way he comes back is if injuries (knock on wood) take their toll on the LB corps.

I'm cautiously leaning towards staying with the youth movement on defense. At some point all teams need to rebuild some areas. Waiting until it's a massive rebuild like Miami did is a mistake. The Pats are in a good position to add youth to the LBers and safeties as the prolific scoring of the offense can offset the inexperience of the new players on D. Few teams have this luxury. There is also a good veteran presence on D to expediate the process. I'd say no to Law and maybe to Seau as Hobson's contribution at ILB is still unknown.

Law making a cameo would definately make us more solid at corner and would probrably ease a few concerns fans might have there for now. Seau, I don't care how old he is I'd have him back like a shot if I could but it wouldn't be a question of taking places there because he's not going to play every down. Seau could help a hell of alot with that group both in terms of helping the likes of Mayo and providing valuable depth.

It's one thing to bring in youth to replenish the defense, it's another to carry a lesser player on a roster in the name of youth. The Pats youth movement is already in place and locks to make the roster...Mayo, Crable, Woods, Wheatley, Sanders, Merriweather, Hobbs. The other guys...Guyton, Alexander, Spann, Wilhite, Richardson, need to compete for and earn spots. In a Super Bowl or bust year, you don't sacrafice a chance to win it all in the name of keeping an Antwan Spann on the roster when Ty Law is available.

Of course, money and cap space come into play here as well. But if the vet outperforms a young bubble player, you keep the vet.

How effective would Law be? We all know his speed has degraded and he was always penality prone. I'd still stay away from him and consider Seau.

    Bring back Seau....

    Bring Back Law....

They both are good both know what to do here and both could help in one way or another.

While I question whether Law at this point is better than Hobbs or the rooks or even Bryant for that matter is. IMO Law is still better than Saunders and Webster.

I don't think Law would want the role we could or are offering and apparently wants more cash.

Seau on the other hand I think would relish any role we have for him and love the chance to do battle with these guys again.

So while I would take them both back I will say I doubt Law does and I hope and expect Seau will.

Somehow I don't think easing fans' concerns are a priority with good head coaches.

All for Seau in rotation, he's still awesome. Don't think I'd like Law though, he is to money hungry and too old.

At this point I would be surprised if BB brought in Ty Law. He's been gone from here too long, wants too much dough and is probably too old to be effective any more. Seau's a better bet. At least BB knows what he is getting, and the player does too - a limited role for a limited salary and some mentoring opportunities. Jr. is more of a BB guy, so he has a better shot.

id deffinitly like to see Seau come back, he could rotate with Bruschi on the strongside inside with Mayo next to them. Honestly i would rather Seau start infront of Bruschi cause Bruschi has seriously lost a step, Seau is better. Still a nice rotation with them two would be good. Guyton is wicked raw inside hes not starter material right now maybe in the future though.

I think by the bye week Seau will be here. There is always a guy making it to IR by week 5(sadly)and he wont miss anything by taking the preseason off. If Law has lost a step I say go with the new guys. And I think it will be a very cold day when a FA linebacker starts on a BB team, sorry Briz.

I think there is a good chance Jr. will be back at some point, as it is unlikely we make it through the season without some ILB getting injured. Mr. Law, however, can stay where he is - not on the Patriots. I still don't like Mr. I Need To Feed My Family, and I don't think he's still got game.

Everyone (well, many) talks about how greedy Law is and how much money he wants.

How much money does he actually want?

He wants so much money that when he gets his last check you'll owe him $10.

If he plays well, I'm willing to make that sacrifice.
