Why is it, that when we build a big early lead, our team is criticized for still making an effort to play the game of football and giving the fans full value of the high price of their tickets?

Then, at the point that we do pull our starters because the "outcome of the game has already been determined" - the opposing team then plays twice as hard to take advantage of the lack of starters, actually trying to get themselves back in the game.

If one team shows the "sportsmanship" by pulling starters, shouldn't the other team show the same sportsmanship and pull their starters as well?

Isn't it bad sportsmanship on the part of the opposing team to take advantage of the Patriots showing them mercy?.

I think the answer here is that both teams should play to the best of their ability at all times - if that winds up being a 70-7 score, so be it.

There's no crying in baseball and there's no mercy in football. Fans who whine about running up the score only embarrass their own organizations.

It's a tough call. I guess if you are up 21 points, midway through the 4th, on the opponents side of the field, why not run it? On the other hand, 3 td's in 8 minutes is possible. Not probable against the Pats, but possible.

27 in 7 games. Pretty good.

BTW, when do you guys play an NFL team??

First of all, the Phins were running the ball on us mostly. What do you want them to do?

Pull their starters - just like us.

Is it good sportsmanship for teams, fans and organizations whine about our team trying to score, only to attempt to embarrass our Defense once many of our starters are pulled?

Umm, last week we played a 5-0 team...and destroyed them. Who's the best team the colts played, 4-2 titans?

    This complete discussion is stupid.

No one should be ridiculed for destroying a defense, be it by 20 points or 70 points.

One day a team is going to lose a game because it feared "running up the score".

I have no problem with the Pats destroying a team by 50 points. If the opponent can't defend it, then that's really their problem, not the Pats.

    Very good point.
The Fins scored 21 in the 4th quarter to make the score look closer than the game actually was.
But one day if the Pats let up on the gas pedal too early, it could hurt them.
So I say, if you can score that's what you've got to do.
A win is a win, whether it be by 20 or 40, and no lead is ever perfectly safe.

My thoughts are we scored 7 points in the 2nd half.

Hardly seems like we ran up the score to me...

And how is it more "respectful" to go to your 2nd string? To me it's much more of a slap in the face to "not even try to score any more" because you think the defense sucks so much.

Respect is playing consistently throughout the game, doing what you as an offense is supposed to do: score points.

I can understand sitting Brady for injury concerns, but so that media idiots don't accuse you of "running the score"? Utter BS.

Do people even think the Pats ran it up?? Other times this year I can see, but today the only reason Brady's even in there is because Cassel couldn't take care of the football. And the Dolphins were doing a good job of moving the ball during the game.

BB will make the right decision when his players should "run backwards" so as to not run up the score. Untill then I assume the Patriots will just play football.

"Do people even think the Pats ran it up?"

If you mean, "did the offense do what offenses are supposed to do and score points", then the answer is YES.

Is that what you are asking?

Or are you getting all Oprah?

Oprah? I don't understand. I'm surprised that some think the Pats ran it up, when it seemed clear to me that they were not trying to. They took Brady out, then put him back in because of the INT and the fact that Miami did a decent job of moving the ball on the NE D during the game.

That's the point - when we showed the Dolphins mercy so as not to embarrass them further they actually did everything they could to bring the score back to striking distance.

Obviously they didn't run up the score this week - nearly all our points were in the 1st half. Some people seem confused about that for some reason.

Its that we DIDN'T run up the score - and in return, the Fins did their best to take advantage of that.

    Never again.

I agree. I have no problem with the Pats scoring at the end of the half nor do I have any problem with the Dolphins trying to score on us after we took out Brady, etc., etc. Team's can't concede anything. BB said it best in his press conference, you never know what can happen and you can never have too big a lead, you can never have enough points.

Furthermore, there's a practical matter that has largely been ignored. Brady is still playing with a group of receivers he's only been with for 7 games. If their work is done early in the 2nd half every game, then they are getting that much less work together.

I think that the two-minute drill they ran at the end of the first half was just so that these guys could work on that in a game situation. They haven't had the need or the opportunity to do it that often this season.

Um...last week? Oh - and then we play another one, your femmy little Colts, in a few weeks, and we'll destroy you, too, on your home field. We'll be sorry to see you go.

Count me in with those who think the idea that the Dolphins are required to take THEIR starters out, too, is completely ridiculous.

In all due respect, and as a suffering Dolphins fan, I have to say that your post is absolute garbage. Are you freaking KIDDING ME???!!!!! If you're not trying to run up the score, you RUN THE BALL. You bring in Cassell to hand it off. But Bellicheck got bitten in the ass by J Taylor, or more appropriately put, Cassell's poor choice. Bellicheck(sp?) was trying to run up the score...and that's fine. I wish my Fins would even be in that position. But having said that and getting back to the point of this thread, Bellicheck TRIED to run up the score, PERIOD! As for US pulling our starters, that makes your post even more ridiculous. We're not ever giving up. If Bellichicken didn't want to run up the score and simply preserve the lead, he would have handed the ball off, kill some time, and nail the Fins deep. He was trying to show boat...period. And agin, that's fine. Just admit it.

again, congrats on another dominating win. I hate the Pats more than ever but damnit, you guys are freaking good
