Why is it, that when we build a big early lead, our team is criticized for still making an effort to play the game of football and giving the fans full value of the high price of their tickets? Then, at the point that we do pull our starters because the "outcome of the game has already been determined" - the opposing team then plays twice as hard to take advantage of the lack of starters, actually trying to get themselves back in the game. If one team shows the "sportsmanship" by pulling starters, shouldn't the other team show the same sportsmanship and pull their starters as well? Isn't it bad sportsmanship on the part of the opposing team to take advantage of the Patriots showing them mercy?. I think the answer here is that both teams should play to the best of their ability at all times - if that winds up being a 70-7 score, so be it. There's no crying in baseball and there's no mercy in football. Fans who whine about running up the score only embarrass their own organizations.
