So I've been thinking. With all of this "Peyton Manning to the Jets" crap going around everywhere, what happens of they did get Manning?

Would BB be then forced to finally draft some really good defensive talent for this team. I mean, just think for a sec, if Peyton IS healthy and he does go to the Jets (assuming he gets released), that could be a dangerous team.

With that defense and Peyton at the helm, it would be a harder fight for the division hands down. Any thoughts on this? I know there was a bunch of "IFs" here but it could happen.

    Re: The Future....

Sanchez has been the Achilles heel of the Jets. They have talent pretty much everywhere else.

With Manning, they'd become an instant SB contender for the next 2-3 years at minimum, and they would certainly challenge for the division title every year. That team is probably as good or better than any team Manning played w/ in Indy.

It would be terrible. Manning could actually walk the walk of Rex's talk.

After watching how the opposing defenses manhandled Sanchez i doubt Manning would want to take a risk of paralysis by going to the Jests....

    Re: The Future....

With all of the Manning-to-Jets talk, I should just make this my sig:

"A 36-year-old, thrice-neck-surgeried, control-freak dome QB who has never played well in bad conditions all of a sudden playing outside in the Northeast for a team with a receiver deficit, bad line, declining running game and defense, for the most blowhard coach in NFL history, and in front of the New York media?

I've said it before: I kind of want to see it."

    Re: The Future....

Manning would be a huge risk for the Jets right now. He's going to have at least 1 year of getting reaccustomed to not just his new offense but coming off a serious injury. Then when that year is done, he might have 2 seasons, 3 seasons maximum at elite level IF he reaches that level again. They're probably going to give up alot in terms of draft picks and cap space, for a team that has alot of holes right now that can only hurt them right now and down the road IMO.

The supporting cast Manning will get over there won't be much better than the last few years with the Colts, and aside from '09 he didn't take them deep at all.

They're against the cap, most of the guys that are making up large portions of the hit aren't likely to restructure, and most of their high hit players will carry a lot of deadspace if cut. If Manning was willing to sign with that zoo they'd have to gut their roster of its supporting cast. I have a hard time having much fear of a team with 7-8 elite talents and 35 players making ~1mil a year. They've managed to dodge a bunch of bullets with this crap, but one has to imagine that eventually they'll be unable to tap dance out of the holes they dig trying to quick fix their problems.

    Re: The Future....

    Well said/typed!
Jets fans are desperate. When Jets had an offensive line, top defense & running game much was hidden for Sanchez. This year he had to be A REAL QB and Jets never really trusted him.

    I'm no mathematician but......
Holmes + Burress + Keller + QB NO confidence = Jets 8-8 season.

I think those hoping for Manning to end up in NY should be careful of what they wish for. It would make for some exciting matchups, but I certainly don't want to see us face Peyton twice a year as a division rival.

    Re: The Future....

I think if the Jets get Manning, it takes a lot of pressure off of Belichick because he only has to worry about the Dolphins contending for the AFC East.

The idea that Manning is going to be remotely what he used to be is unrealistic at this point.

    Re: The Future....

Unless the YETS clean house to make some cap room, Manning will not be playing for the YETS. However, if he were healthy enough and they did find the money and cap room and he did play for them, it scares me not at all. He'll be thirty seven, would not have played for almost two years calendar wise and if the YETS do not upgrade their offensive line, he'll be on IR in no time. Then there's the receiver conundrum. They need another guy who can actually run, unlike Burress and then catch the ball. What if they finally kill themselves and get rid of Holmes? The franchise is falling apart and the management seems unable to do a damn thing about it. I just do not see this happening.

With everything hinging on the health of Peyton, it is impossible to say.

However what happens if the Jets sign Brees as a free agent, even with the franchise tag?

I think they become SB favorites immediately.

    Re: The Future....

As others have said, I can't see Manning coming to the Jets. He couldn't even stand one liquored-up kicker. How is he going to deal with Rexie and the cast of Animal House? Plus, he would be in front page competition on a daily basis with his younger, healthier brother who is with the superior team. Too much pressure for someone who's gotta be worried at this point about whether he can even play, or if he can, the next big hit and when it's coming. I also think he'd like to stay away from BB and TFB as they have been his biggest competition, and why give them 2 shots a year to extend their legacy against him?

But, assuming I am wrong (not a stretch, because I admit I was one who thought things such as, "BB will never take on Corey Dillon!" or "BB will never take on Randy Moss!" or most recently, "BB will never get rid of Randy Moss in the middle of a season!") and Peytie Pie ends up with the Jets, I don't think it will be that bad. He's older and slower and BB knows how to play him. Will he have to get some different players to account for him? Sure, but I hope he knows at this point (since we all do) that he needs some upgrades on defense anyway. Plus, it would make for 2 headline games per year for an already intense rivalry.

With all due respect to Manning, that's assuming he survives intact to the second meeting, since I don't see the NFL changing the rules to put every QB in a red no-contact jersey.

    Re: The Future....

Why would Brees go to the JEST? Brees is practically the king of New Orleans at this point.

And, as noted above, the JEST are already in cap trouble, and signing Brees (especially under the FT) would mean cutting players AND no first-rounder to help him in 2012 or 2013.

Do the Jets have to play by the Salary Cap Rule???

It is more likely that Peyton retires, before he dons the puke green of the Jets..

    Re: The Future....

This present player quote about sums up their chances of signing Manning.

Same would hold true for Brees, even if the Saints didn't put the exclusive tag on him, which they will.

    Found this part interesting:

I think to be a good QB you must have thick skin and probably shouldn't be following your critics in the first place.
