And, as noted above, the JEST are already in cap trouble, and signing Brees (especially under the FT) would mean cutting players AND no first-rounder to help him in 2012 or 2013.
an indy friend of mine who knows the doctors swears Manning is never going to play again.........lets see if this is true.
There are a lot of other teams that could use Manning's services if they decide to cut him. The first logical place for me is San Francisco. Can you imagine how scary they could be with Manning on that team? They have solid coaching, solid run game, crabtree and davis and are not in salary cap hell. Plus, it's a much nicer city to live in.
Win win for all parties. Colts send him to NFC. 49ers becomes serious contenders (both offense and defense). Manning wins an easy division and lives in a great city.
Again, you're ignoring a basic problem: unless the NFL changes its rules to prohibit contacting a QB at all, any team signing Manning would be taking a huge risk that he'd be out of commission the first time he took a hard hit. How do you design a contract that Manning would find palatable that also didn't risk financial disaster for no gain at all?

The franchise is falling apart...
If the Colts cut Manning, any team that wants to talk to him can do so. If the Colts are interested in trading Manning, they can allow potential suitors to talk to him. And even if a trade is agreed upon, like all trades it would be subject to Manning passing a physical. Yes, it would be a risk. But there's probably 25 teams who would be better off with Manning than whomever they already have.Again, you're ignoring a basic problem: unless the NFL changes its rules to prohibit contacting a QB at all, any team signing Manning would be taking a huge risk that he'd be out of commission the first time he took a hard hit.
You do what the Colts did: You backload it and/or give all sorts of roster bonuses. How do you design a contract that Manning would find palatable that also didn't risk financial disaster for no gain at all?
Lol-apalooza, who would trade for Sanchez?
