Sign the Beast III: Peanut Tillman - Smart, Cheap, Veteran who is worth a look

Definitely worth a look for all the reasons given above, but ONLY if Revis doesn't come back.

So you are done with Arrington because the defensive coaches ****ed up and put him in a position to fail? Would you also be done with Brady if McDaniels for a half decided to play a QB run-option offense? Because that's pretty much the same thing.

so if a guy play's poorly, it suddenly the coaches fault for putting him in a bad situation?

Charles Tillman played a good chunk of his career in a cover 2. Technique wise Browner and Revis are probably in a better position to show the young guys how it is done. The one thing our secondary doesn't lack is experience. Not really sure what value he'd add.

It's going to be a really long offseason if we have to have the same Browner to safety talks that we did last year, only to watch him play corner the entire season. Not to mention, strong safety is the last position on defense where I'd want to be paying two guys like starters.

i think the coaching staff told him outright last year that he would be a CB, not a safety. I don't think much changes in that regard for this season.

Arrington had a good year and some very good games, but because he, for some very unclear reason, was put up against a much bigger guy that had no problem outjumping him you think he sucks. That's like saying Browner sucks because you put him on someone like T.Y Hilton. He would suck in that situation, but that does not mean he is a sucky player. Arrington is very good against smaller fast guys, that's what he excels at. He isn't good at going against guys that are much bigger than him, so why put him in that position in the first place? Do you not want us to have a second corner that can cover fast guys?

it is when he's put in a bad situation. He completely shut down TY Hilton to the point nobody could remember if he played or not. Also shut down a really good Wes Weller in 2013.

Call me nuts, but I think bringing in Tillman to teach and hazel the rookies wouldn't be a bad idea. Even if he doesn't play much and just rides the pine. His agent would probably just ask Mr Kraft "how much cashew have left under the cap?" Oh god that was terrible . Please don't dislike this post as I do not feel like hearing it from the peanut gallery. Ok I'm done now may God have mercy on my soul.
You really need to come out of your shell.

Don't see a fit here at all. Aging, oft-injured cover 2 corner on a team with great young corner depth. We need to continue to develop Butler/Ryan as both have shown to be capable NFL corners. Don't forget about Dennard as well. No reps for Charles here.

I love Tillman's play and all, but honestly, if Revis is resigned, cornerback may be the position with the most depth on the entire team.

Doubt Bill will bring in a 33-year-old corner coming off an injury in when he's got Arrington, Dennard, Ryan and Butler in the foreground.

If there's one position though that seriously could use an upgrade, it's Strong Safety. I thought Chung did a solid job back there this year, but imagine a big Kam Chancellor-type to go along with Revis, Browner and McCourty? Ugh, that would be insane.

He would not make it out of camp. And a spot on the 53 is too valuable to give it up just "to keep him around".

Assuming Revis is resigned, who are you going to cut to make room for Peanut Tillman?

Malcolm Butler has made some decent plays :) and is probably headed to being the first backup to Revis/Browner. The Pats are loaded at CB.

I think Dennard is probably the odd man out and Belichick will bring in some young CBs for camp and stashing on the practice squad.

To be clear on my position, I'm basing this on Tillman still being able to play. If he doesn't have anything left, id assume Bill would pass on him all together.

Ideal Situation:
-Revis
-Browner
-Ryan
-Arrington
-Butler

If Revis goes then Ryan or Butler get a shot and the #1 spot.

As others have said, If Tillman has anything left, he'd be worth a look-see but he might be closer to Shawn Springs at this point.

Tillman is probably the most underrated player over the last decade or so and I would be intrigued if he signed here but I am not holding my breath that he has anything left in the tank.

I've loved his play the guy causes more fumbles than any DB I can remember so I would welcome a TC flyer a la Adrian Wilson but don't expect better results but worth a shot.

Although I agree in parts, the roster size is 90 and kicking the tires is a good thing. I trust BB and co. to decide if he has anything left and could be good on the 53.

What about signing Tillman and moving Browner to SS?

Why would you take a press cover specialist, one of the best in the NFL at what he does, and move him off the line of scrimmage? That makes no sense.

Bingo!
It's coverage in space that Browner at his 6'4" and 220+ LBS has problems with.
He does not need to be designated as a SS to smash guys coming off the LOS.
That said on the last series in the SB he did a great job almost making a pick in downfield coverage.

at his age he is a FS so that would mean McCourty is gone i would not be happy about that but he would be a 1 year quick fix
