Speaking of rules, apparently the Colts literally felt it was necessary to tell the world that they abide by the rules on their website.

It's hard to disagree with what he's saying.

    No Jersey Selected

He does have a point. And hypocritical is an understatement when describing the NFL in this. Doesn't Monday Night Football have a intense graphic at the start of the game showing two crashing helmets exploding into destruction?

I usually have total disdane for the Colts, but today they suspended their punter. For being arrested, drunk in public. He wasn't driving, ther was no dui, now compare that to the Jests and Braylon Edwards, he was busted for a dui and nothing happened.

I think they should leave it the was it is. If its a blantantly obvious dirty hit to hurt someone like BM's Then eject the player and hit them with a suspension.

Colts don't use their punter very much, it's kind of like benching Braylon for a quarter. ;)

It's hard to argue with Stink, I understand where the league is trying to eliminate monetary liability.

The Jets staff sets up Farve to sexually harass their woman staff, they including the coach harass a woman reporter, they admit taping the Patriots but say the Patriots said it was ok while the Patriots deny they gave them permission and nothing happens. The Jets can do whatever they won't and get away with it.

It was just the kicker. Let's see what would happen if it was Reggie Wayne or Dwight Freeney that got the dui and see if there is a suspension. Somehow I think Polian might go to bat for them.

It's all about labor. They can't go to the table and talk to the players about having an 18 game schedule when the players are blowing each other up with hits like BM's. So they will fine and suspend, then they will use that as a negotiating tool "hey, look, we are looking to keep players safe, see what we did? You guys can play 18 games because we have your back. Big Brother NFL will protect you." Please.

Schlereth is 100% on the money. The league has glorified the big hit forever. Frank Gifford, Joe Thiesmann, jacked up...you name it. Now they want to be all "we can't condone this type of thing" and fine players?? It hypocritical. Go to NFL.com, read the commish's comments, then with two clicks, order NFL's Biggest Hits

Schlereth's always struck me as kind of an idiot. Not sure I see any contradiction between the league promoting itself--and part of the appeal is obviously the hard hitting stuff--and trying to make sure guys don't get paralyzed. Weird to be outraged by that.

Usually, I don't like Schlereth, but he is clear-eyed and articulate about the NFL's hypocrisy here.

Marcellus Wiley is talking about this stuff right now, on Dale & Holley. He's backing Schlereth.

Agreed. All the other hits I saw around the league were not fine worthy. B-Merri launched himself after the ball had gone past, it was the only fine worthy hit let alone suspension worthy.

Stink's rant was great. It's a travesty that they don't pay for his insurance and the insurance of other retired players around the league.
