We have been discussion our defensive line at length over the past week and when I think about moving forward I consistently question what to expect form Siliga and Jones in 2014.

• Sealver Siliga - 7 games, 31 tackles, 3 sacks, 1 forced fumble, and 1 stuff
• Chris Jones - 15 games, 61 tackles, 7 sacks, and 3 stuffs

To give those numbers some perspective these are the numbers of the defensive tackles over the past few seasons other than Vince Wilfork while they were with the Patriots.

• Kyle Love - 47 games, 74 tackles, 5.5 sacks, and 3 stuffs
• Brandon Deaderick - 40 games, 56 tackles, 6 sacks, 2 forced fumbles, and 1 stuff
• Ron Brace - 39 games, 39 tackles, 0 sacks, 1 forced fumble, and 4 stuffs
• Myron Pryor - 25 games, 38 tackles, 1 sack, 1 forced fumble, and 3 stuffs

People were high on many of those players at periods of their tenure with us. What do you all think of Siliga and Jones, are they starters, sub players, or will they be cut in camp next season?

At worst, they're better depth than Love and Deaderick were.

I can't really get a read on their respective ceilings yet. It seemed to me that Jones hit the rookie wall pretty hard - probably a result of taking nearly all the snaps at a physically exhausting position. I do wonder how much more effective and durable he'd be with some actual depth/health at DT.

As far as I'm concerned, they're depth guys, and extremely good depth guys at that. But they aren't front line, start 16 game a season guys. You're not going to win championships with Chris Jones and Sealver Siliga taking the majority of your snaps. You'll do some okay things with them, as we've seen this year, but they aren't going to dominate games for you or be big time difference makers.

And I was just starting to forget about Ron Brace too.....sigh, my hopes were so high for that guy. He and Shawn Crable.

Yeah, what JackBauer said.

I'm beginning to think that something other teams will take from Pete Carroll is the need to cut the snaps on the defensive linemen. Depth needed - these two, I think, work pretty well in that role.

Numbers are irrelevant to the position they play, unless they're in there as a pass rushing specialist.

The number that counts is the number of times Peyton was disrupted in the pocket, especially moving up. That's zero.

They all played pretty close to the best of their ability IMO, and some could have good careers as backups. We had Spikes on one leg out there instead of Jaime Collins too.

If we have a top DT next year somehow, Chandler Jones is going off for a pro bowl year.

We're going to need depth next year as we're transitioning with or without Wilfork, to a new line.

Siliga is a hard working backup NT, Chris Jones is a good inside rusher, Pryor, Wright type (short though). I doubt Vellano sticks around long, he's a tweener. Sometime attitude makes you a good backup, though.

Siliga was a great run stuffer, I would expect him to be a starter. He dominated the Broncos, Colts, Bills, Ravens and Browns guards, Vasquez is considers to be one of the best and he gave him fits.

I'm not really a stats driven guy but B6's numbers on these guys vs their predecessors are impressive. Add Siliga & Jones' numbers together and double them for a comparison for equal number of games. Of course the coaches grade each and every play so they can tell if a guy "takes plays off" to subsequently make a more spectacular play. It's nice to have these guys from nowhere to fill out the roster.

I think they're both good depth players who were asked to do too much. Ideally, neither of them is starting next season, but they're both contributing to the rotation. If one of them is starting, that's not the end of the world, but it means that DT is, yet again, not a position of strength for this team.

Both were rookie "finds". Neither may become a star, but both ably provide rotational depth. I want to see what Armstead, a possible star, and Pork Chop another probable reserve, can do.

If Vince and/or Kelley can return to form this will be the best interior DTs the Pats have had in the BB era, since Richard Seymour played NT/DT in the 3-4. all alone. Sack totals jumped to 48 fifth best, from subpar 34, and 12 came from up the middle, a long missing component.

We saw this very young D transform into the beginnings of a dominant Defense.

All that is missing is another big CB, a good SS, and another reserve DE, and the job would be complete,
BB has failed due to health with Ras-i and apparently lack of talent with Tavon and Bequette or the job would be completed already. :( But we have playable talent at those positions, even now.

Still this D has been getting experienced playing together, will kick ass, and take names next season.

Good depth, Jones is the Mike Wright role, Siliga did very well, don't know yet if he is going to be the answer on every down but he would be great as the run backup.

Still need a stud in the middle. Kelly was very good before getting hurt. If he can still play I would like to see him back and also a high draft pick. Hagemann highly rated but the two games I saw were not impressive. Donald of Pitt looked good, don't know if his size is right. We don't just need a run stuffer, I think our #1 need is someone to push the inside of the pocket.
