183 yards on the ground here in Game 1 exceeds our highest total for any game last year (159, also against the Bills).

Our running game is going to rock this year.

When your "worst" RB averages 4.6 yards per carry you're having a pretty good day.

Oddly, the OL - which last year seemed to do great in pass protection, less so in supporting the run - did just the opposite today

Joe6Pat: You've touched on a fundimental oddity of the Pats O-Line. EVERY YEAR they change from being a good run team to a good pass team.

I think it has to do with what they emphasize each offseason. After all, these guys are not 'world beaters' on the O-line, they are just hard workers who get a lot of training, and whatever is drilled into their head each offseason seems to be what they are good at next year.

2001: Good run game that made A. Smith look good.

2002: Led league in touchdowns, no run game.

2003: Not too great in pass protection, Brady's worst year.

2004: DILLON!!!!

2005: Led league in pass yardage.

2006: DILLON, MARONEY!!!!!

Ya gotta love our running game. Im kinda upset that they show all of Reggie Bush's highlites (he had a great game), yet Maroney get's no highlites. The kid had 86 yards on only 17 carries (5 yards per carry). His first NFL carry goes for 27 yards, amazing !! Especially for a guy who was supposed to be out, lol. I hope ESPN reports him out for the Jets game. Dillon, 4.6 ypc, even though some of his runs were for short yardage first downs. I love smashmouth football, and our running game and defense smashed mouths !!

When the Patriots get better play on the outside from WR's, the run game should be even better. They should have been able to play action better today but the WR play wasn't there for it.
