I really like this running back group, especially now that Vereen is back. Bolden Ridley, Vereen, Woodhead and next year adding Demps is probably one of the youngest RB corps in the league, and with the exception of Demps, all have shown that they are capable in the NFL. I know it is only Vereen's first time with significant starts, but I think he has proved that he deserves additional time on the field. I really like how the team got aggressive
adding young talented TE's and now RB's, and a young talented QB waiting in the wings for the inevitable unspeakable.

Like I said in the other thread, I wasn't too impressed with Vereen today. Even though the #'s were good and he did take what the D gave to him, I didn't see the explosiveness I was expecting from him. That said, it is ncie to see him out there finally getting touches and I expect improvement if he hopefully gets more experience. I still see a significant dropoff from Ridley to him, one that I don't see from Ridley to Bolden (if one exists at all). Bolden's looked really good as the #2.

Woodhead's a pretty steady back who has been very relaible for us other than one KR in the AFCC. Solid 3rd down back.

Ridley has seemed like the real deal thus far, let's see if he keeps it up though. Last couple games he's been quieted but hopefully he can break off a big game within the next couple games.

Vereen looked natural catching passes and had a better YPC than Ridley.

This group of RBs is going to make it really easy on whoever Brady's successor is.

Don't kow what game you were watching. Superb in blitz pick up too which is going to be required of him.

It was a very performance and he answered questions such as can he pick up enough of the offence to be a factor in the no huddle.

    No Jersey Selected

i thought Vereen look more than handy. Not to geet him out there next week and into the rotation as a dependable piece.

Looks like Bolden will be sideline for a few weeks.

Every running back will look better with more touches on the ball. It's like acting: you can rehearse and practice all you like, but you can't hone your craft unless you're on stage live, or working before the cameras.

With more on-field action, Vereen will get better.

I also am pretty excited about this stable of running backs we've accumulated. If they can, overall, stay healthy, we'll have a solid group for several years.

Don't get me wrong, I felt it was a solid outing. It was probably comparable to a Woodhead performance on his good days, which is fine as depth and I'll take it for now since Ridley and Bolden have worked out so well thus far. The thing is you expect more from a 2nd rounder and all the hype around Vereen. I didn't see much burst or explosiveness that would lead me to think of him as the home run hitter he was supposed to be. Ridley/Bolden still looks far better, if Ridley had the same open space Vereen had yesterday he'd have at least matched his YPC.

Can we carry 5 backs + 1 FB ( Hooma or something like it ) next year

Demps should get inside, atleast as a return guy, but also as a 3 down back.

Ridley in the main back with Bolden as second option + 4 ST units

Vereen and Woody are both 3 down backs. Vereen is faster and Woodhead got experience.

Should we go with all or what should we do?

Given the average career length of RBs, Brady may still be here when they're gone.

Fells has been the fullback on a number of plays, I think we keep 5 true RBs and 4 TEs, 5 WRs and 9 OL, no fullbacks.

It doesn't matter what our RBs are like if the Pats go pass happy.

The Pats have played 60 games since the start of 2009, including playoffs and the games this season. In games that they ran the ball at least 40% of the total plays they were 35-5. In games that they ran it less than 40% they were 8-12. That's a pretty wide gap.

Not sure what you are looking for. Vereen looked quick and had burst through the hole.

The Patriots are running the ball over 35 times a game this season.

By the way your #s ignore that winning causes running rather than running causes winning.

Teams tend to run when ahead and pass when behind correlation =/= causation
