With the report that Thomas has broken a foot, and Gay not signing an offer sheet, I have a slight revision to my Patriots' draft "needs" for 2007.

Previous
1. LB depth
2. Nickelback
3. RB depth
4. S depth
5. WR for 2008
6. Competition at OT and TE

Updated:
1. LB depth
2. CB depth - Gay and Scott between them handle nickelback needs.
3. TE depth - Another receiver who can learn to block would be good here.
4. RB depth
5. S depth
6. WR for 2008
7. OT competition

I think you are spot on.

PS: We also have james for CB Depth.

For Gay to leave the Pats somebody has to cough up a 2nd round pick. The Jets were unwilling to do it so I doubt anybody else will. Count on Gay to remain a Patriot.

I do, especially since last week was the final day clubs could sign RFAs to offer sheets. :p

Safety is higher than fifth or fourth the list. Don't just go by their '07 roster, but the '08 roster. They basically have jack for Safeties under contract for '08. Rodney? I don't think he'll play after '07, and he's been hitting the injury wall lately. Sanders? He could be their starting SS in '08, but I'm not completely sold on him as a full time player, and he's likely gone after '08. Hawkins will be gone after '07, and I think he's about done. Wilson will likely be gone after '07, and he's been injured lately. Basically, they have jack for dependable Safeties this season, and they have zero Safety depth at both Safety positions in '08. It also seems like a lot of people forget how good NE's defense has been when they had good play from the Safety position.

I still think they draft two Safeties in this draft.

I find it interesting that Gay did not sign his tender offer this week.

Maybe he hopes we will draft a cornerback and let him go to the Jets

for a late round pick.

You are welcome to list your draft priorities too. With 10 picks and a very deep Safety class that will see some interesting players available as UDFA, I'm not too worried.
