I was asked in a separate thread. Did not want to hijack the other thread so I decided to create a new one for this.

"If we re-signed the 3 most crucial ones, which are Wilfork, Mankins and Gostkowski in my opinion, how much of the available cap room would this take up?

Lets say they all got top 5 for their position money, how much cap room would be left before draftees were signed?"

    My answer:

I think that this would a fair deal for Ghost and the Pats.

    A 5-year deal worth $12.5 million with a $4.5 million signing bonus

    Year Salary Cap Hit
    2009 1,000,000 2,006,250
    2010 1,300,000 2,200,000
    2011 1,600,000 2,500,000
    2012 1,900,000 2,800,000
    2013 2,200,000 3,100,000

The 2009 cap hit includes the 2009 proration of his 2006 signing bonus.

    Miguel,

If the CBA is not extended, then he's not a UFA next year, so we'd probably keep him for the top tender. Wouldn't we?

Not even the top tender. The 1st round tender of $2.396 million should do the trick.

Just to be clear, that 2 million number would replace the current 1.12 Million number. So a net increase of about 880K for this year?

Please note in my deal the Ghost's 2010 cap number is less than $2.396 million.
