Re: Utah's Pro Day...

NFL.com Blogs Blog Archive O-line, DB coaches descend on Utah for pro days

Excerpts
...

Representatives from 20 NFL teams were present for the indoor sessions on FieldTurf. Four assistant coaches, including three offensive line coaches — Bill Callahan of the New York Jets, Dante Scarnecchia from the New England Patriots and Pat Ruel from the Seattle Seahawks — and Pittsburgh Steelers offensive assistant Harold Goodwin were in attendance.

Offensive lineman Zane Taylor (6-foot-2 1/2, 308 pounds) drew compliments from Callahan after his workout, and he displayed impressive strength and foot quickness in his testing...

Fellow offensive lineman Caleb Schlauderaff (6-4 5/8, 302) re-tested his jumps...

And from
Reiss:

Patriots offensive line coach Dante Scarnecchia ran position drills at Utah's Pro Day.

V - Official Pre-Draft visit; visited team facilities/hosted by team in area
PW - Private workout held with prospect
AW - Attended open workout on Campus
C - Position Coach or Coordinator contact
MC - Team has spoken to player or agent or had on-Campus visit; miscellaneous contact
APD - Team official has attended Pro-Day
I - Interviewed at Combine/All-Star game
RI - Rumoured interest

NB: All players in larger font, and Bold, Italic and Underline, have met the "Three Contact Rule". To meet the TCR, a prospect must have three confirmed contacts (RI does not count). The TCR implies that the Patriots are very very interested in them, and there's a very good chance we'll draft them. Don't take it for granted though.

I've seen that NEPatsDraft has Skrine down for a Visit, I'm having a word to see where he's had that confirmed as we were told PW - which he hasn't got marked down.

Based on a comparison of last year's pre-draft contact list to the list of guys we actually drafted, I'd have to say that things a looking up for a lot of the prospects who don't appear on the list above.

Didn't BB workout Mccourty, Hernandez, Cunningham, and Spikes last year? I also remember us being very interested in Gronk all along. Price was a surprise pick but other than that everyone else that was picked high we expressed interest in during the pre-draft process.

How come Clint Boling isnt on the list? We attended Georgia's Pro Day. I would like us to pick him at 74 if hes still there. He could come in and start day 1 at LG. Are you only putting people on this list that the medias has confirmed we showed interest in.

Taylor Price was worked out as well. Also Mesko and Zac Robinson.

I can now see him sliding to #17 -- interesting that Brian Cox's workout with him didn't go smoothly.

I'm not too worried about it. Cox's line about him being stiff was said jokingly, and the two were reported to have a very good relationship. I'm pretty happy with what I've heard from the workout because he showed his athletecism and that he is getting healthy, without killing his workout and pushing him back into the top 5. So overall he is still my number one target in the draft.

I think its also interesting to note that Jarvis Jenkins also worked out today and looked very good.

Context is everything, thank you. I like Bowers and if he slid to #17 wouldn't hesitate, I think he's got two position potential in the 3-4, if he doesn't work as an OLB, add 20 lbs and work him at DE.

I'm very comfortable with the idea of NE drafting Jenkins in the second round, I've seen him projected to the third in some places, but I've had him in the second since the season ended.

Thats part of the reason why I love Bowers. I think he can contribute as a 3-tech and 5-tech now on passing downs, and if he doesn't work out at OLB he has the frame to bulk up to 300lbs. In fact if he was 290-300lbs now he would be my top rated DE because I think he is head and shoulders above the other DE's in this draft in terms of two gap technique.

I think Jenkins can be a steal in the 3rd round! I would not object to BB picking him at #60 as long as Clint Boling isn't there too.

Da'Quan Bowers runs a 4.85, 4.92 in solid workout | National Football Post

Pats one of the teams in attendance at Bowers private workout today

Ouch that is slooow. But then again Bowers did weigh in at 276 so I'd have to assume he was out of shape and a little overweight. Watt at 290 had a faster 40 at 4.84.

Bowers and Clayborn are the kind of guys that you'd project at elephant back. But I'm not sure either is special enough to take on the role that Willie McGinnest filled for the Pats for so long. Things that make you go hmmm.

It's kind of funny how Willie McGinnest became standard for OLB elephant position for the Patriots. I recall BB asking him to take pay cut several times when he became the head coach. I think BB even placed him on the Houston Texan's expansion draft.

Just an FYI, we have on good authority that this didn't actually take place. Changed to a Private Workout according to Chris Price.

No offense, but I'll trust Jason La Canfora's sources over yours. And I haven't seen a retraction from him.
