If buying NFL jerseys before April, buyer beware | ProFootballTalk

I think this is one of their better posts, and those of you who may want to purchase a jersey now and especially right after the superbowl would do well to read this.

I agree with the consensus that Nike will do the same thing with the NFL jerseys that they did to the college ones.

    #91 Jersey

Maybe I am confused, but how can Nike just arbitrarily change the uniforms? Sure they supply the uniforms, but why can they just change them? Isn't that a decision made by each team's ownership?

I think they are overblowing that there will be a lot of players changing numbers or how their name is shown on their jerseys. There may be a handful of players who will do it around the league, but most of the guys you would want to buy jerseys for will not. Do you think Brady is going to change his number?

I do agree to wait to see if the new design is better and the potential for the old jerseys to be sold at a discount once the new ones come out, but I think if you are holding off getting that Gronk jersey because you fear he will change his number for 87 to say 82 I think you are being foolish.

    #51 Jersey

Maybe the radical changes will be something like pro combat versions of the current unis, that wouldn't be bad because the jerseyes will be practically the same.

...unless they give the Patriots helmets like the Oregon ones from the Bowl game

Either way, we have a Reebok shop in town and they're selling NFL jerseys for £13 so I got a couple at that price, bargain!

That jersey is great, but the Patriots with this helmet:

I think the issue is more about the design change than any number change. I'm just hoping that the redesign is not as radical as some of the college uniforms which are just downright bizarre.

There is nothing arbitrary about it, they paid a whole boat load of money to take the contract away from Rebook and part of the condition was that they get to design the new uniforms........of course with a little help and approval from the league and it's owners.

However, they will have a lot of freedom.

It's all about $$'s - How much was given to the league and now how much Nike can make off selling them.

I hear Logo changes are planned too.
The Dallas Star will be replaced by a question mark,
and Indianapolis has decided to go with a very nice Little Blue Pony.

Nike isn't changing the team's uniform design. That's ridiculous. I'm sure they will update the 'look' of the uniforms, but I seriously doubt it will be a substantial change for most teams.

So in other words, Nike is going to preserve Reebok's design?

Florio misses the best reason to wait.

With the new Nike changes, be them major or minor, in May you can expect to find the old ones cheap at a place like Ocean State Job lot.

I really don't see them going radical like some of the rumored\hoaxed designs.

Again, we're talking about two distinct issues. So as not to get too technical:

The NFL and the individual teams control the look of the uniforms.
Reebok and now Nike control the feel of the uniforms.

Nike can suggest changes, but cannot make wholesale changes (at least ones not required by manufacturing adjustments) without the approval of the league/teams.

So the abomination in the post above this one isn't happening unless someone in the Pats organization goes on an all-night bender.

LOL. I was only calling them arena uni's, xfl leftovers or football movie uni's but I think your harshness fits.

That is the design I want, but they have to work on the colors.

That design is okay, they can change the belt to blue.

    #11 Jersey

That uniform would look cool as a Patriots Pro Bowl jersey but not as a game jersey in my opinion.
