MISADVENTURES IN E-MAIL

A league source tells us that an assistant coach with an NFL team attempted on Friday to forward a pornographic e-mail.

If his goal was to send it to every General Manager in the league, he was successful.

The list also included their secretaries. Oh, and the Comissioner got it, too.

We know who the coach is, but we're not going to reveal the name until we get confirmation from one more source as to the coach's identity.

Said the source: "I'm really shocked it hasn't hit the papers. Someone is doing a great job covering it up. But the whole league knows about it."
Who says the offseason gets boring after the draft?

Re: PFT: "Misadventures in e-mail"

It is a Patriots coach, we will never live it down.

Re: PFT: "Misadventures in e-mail"

Skipper McD! cmon man!

Re: PFT: "Misadventures in e-mail"

If PFT ever wants to gain recognition as legit journalism
... don't they gotta publish the email ?

I mean, it's like the Pentagon Papers ... only better.
Florio, doncha wanna become famous like Daniel Ellsberg?
(I was in Fenway one day a few years later. Some folks recognized Ellsberg
walking to a box a bit late.
He got a standing O ... much like The Wave ... as people passed the word of who was strolling in.)

Re: PFT: "Misadventures in e-mail"

This is just proof that the American Pie thing could happen!

Re: PFT: "Misadventures in e-mail"

I'd say the naked Lions Assistant Coach has to be a person of interest in this case. At the very least, he bares watching.

I wonder why no one else has caught wind of this yet. You would figure someone would since it went to at least two people with every team. Maybe it was a pretty good email.

First person that popped into my head was Mike Tice.

Re: PFT: "Misadventures in e-mail"

So some random assistant coach has an auto-completing email address that sends mail to every GM, every GM's secretary, and the commissioner? Huh.

There's always the possibility that his account was commandeered by a virus, but email mistakes do happen. I fondly remember the time years ago when my hated boss accidentally sent a snarky email making fun of a colleague to his whole division. And then there was the time back in Usenet days when my officemate--who shared my computer terminal--hit paste into a messageboard post, thinking she had just posted something about "General Hospital." Instead she posted my note to my husband about our dinner plans to rec.tv.soaps.

yeah this sounds like a virus

Re: PFT: "Misadventures in e-mail"

There was a software engineer that I worked with early in my career that was debugging some code late one evening and put out a bunch of nasty statements if certain areas of error handling code were hit. She forgot to take them out and we shipped with these statements that were designed to put up a message box in the event of certain errors. It didn't take long before many of our customers found these colorful statements and she was promptly fired. I learned a valuable lesson that day. NEVER, NEVER, put anything into source code that you would be embarrased by. Don't even do it if you think you're the only one who will ever see it.

Pornogate! (yes this is football related)

As anyone here who reads PFT has surely seen by now, seems some front office folks for some NFL team were being naughty, naughty boys. An illicit e-mail was sent from an as-yet unnamed front office man to an as-yet unnamed assistant coach, who blundered by forwarding it on to every GM in the league.

I am sure the names will come out eventually... would hate to see it be the Pats but please oh please oh please be someone from a team I hate... Denver or Indy will do, but I wouldn't mind seeing the Jets take a P.R. shot :D

Re: Pornogate! (yes this is football related)

I don't care if it was Brian Schottenheimer or Josh McDaniels - whoever it was forwarded a porno picture . . . big deal.

Oh, I agree it's no big deal... after all, who among us has never received or forwarded such material..? But ya gotta know that it's going to be a black eye whereby we can poke fun at the fans of team X, so I am hoping it comes from a team most deserving of ridicule and scorn. :D :D

Not knowing anything about viruses, my first thought would have been some kind of bang list created for the personnel division to use, that was left available to all users.

Re: PFT: "Misadventures in e-mail"

Naughty Steelers.

Re: PFT: "Misadventures in e-mail"

FRom what was said...it came from Dir of Player Prsnl...Doug Whaley..and what is interesting is what if anything WILL be the consequences...esp with the new Goodell policy in place..

I don't think there should be a punishment. It was an accident and the guys didn't do anything illegal. I'm sure they are plenty embarrassed as it is and it would probably be best for people to just forget about it.

I would have gotten fired if I had done that at my job.
