According to the PR man at BB's press conference.

"One transaction today. We did sign Todd Sauerbrun. Coach will be right in."

    ...

Time to buy my Colts jersey.

Mike Reiss: "Did you have to check out some of the off-field stuff and was that a concern at all?"

BB: "Well, it was a league issue. So, you'll have to talk to the league about it. All that stuff is done on a confidentiality basis. Even if I knew anything I wouldn't say anything about it. But we're not really privy to that type of confidential information. I'd say talk to the league about it."

    ...

Reiss: "Does he have experience holding?"

BB: "Yes, in Chicago. A little in Carolina, too."

Can't say that I'm all that surprised, it isn't the first time BB has taken on a 'problem-child'. If his (steroid) problems are now behind him, all I care about is whether or not he can punt.

Does that mean that he will hold for FG/EPs here, I wonder.

I would guess yes, since we've got a need for one. That may have had something to do with the signing, but I can't say that I know whether or not any of the available guys hold or not.

I would guess no, not on a Friday pick-up, though he may after this week. Now we have both choices covered and can stop to admire Pats1's new jersey. :)

Interesting....I wonder if he's changed a lot?? OR??? Well it could be worse..if Gramatica was on the team...NOT good!! At least the team can hear the other side of the feud...

I feel better about this than I would have about one of the rookies. Just punt, baby.

Awesome signing. He will be the best P pats have had in years, since Camarillo probably. Could care less about his baggage. He's an f'ing punter. I'm pretty sure the Pats clubhouse won't let him get out of line. Plus, sitting on the ww for 12 weeks after being cut by Broncos prob. gave him a well-deserved taste of humility.

And its not like the guy is going to disrupt any crazy-good chemistry on this team. In fact, maybe an a-hole punter is just what this team needs to gel. :)

Don't know what if anything he knows or has observed but Andy Hart was on with Felger yesterday and he said he thought they would probably go with Cassel holding at this point.

Please do. No offense, but BB is trying to win games here and ultimately a superbowl.

I don't get the reference to the Colts jerseys. Can someone explain that?

Pats1 hinted he might root for the Colts if Saurbrun was signed, though he left himself lots and lots of wiggle room. The real tragedy is poor Clonamery who left no wiggle room in his antipathy to Saurbrun - he will now be forced to hang out with relatives and root for Eli. The good news, the Gi-ants are not long for this season at current production, so we'll probably get Clonamery back by the Divisional round at the latest. A truly tragic circumstance...

Actually, to be honest (and I haven't mentioned prior to avoid being castigated for watching or attending anymore games) I have seen exactly 4 games on TV so far this year.....so by NOT watching anymore games and giving into my superstitions while claiming integrity and self-righteousness, it's a win-win for the Pats and myself.

My guess is that the Colts just signed Patrick Pass.

Trust me, I had seriously contemplated making no attempt to watch any Pats game after the Jets loss (my 3rd viewing this year, not including preseason which also were losses) that I twice refused an invitation to a friend's house to watch the Miami game. I finally relented by that Saturday and by halftime I could have (and should have) committed hari-kari as well as slaughtered any of the smirking fin fans.

Please don't ask to have me banned here as it will have to slake my Pats thirst.

I'm not going to feel good about this if we meet Denver in the playoffs. Hopefully BB keeps him the rest of the season instead of him becoming another Brooks Bernard.

If you want some reason to hate this signing, here ya go:

This was posted at the Planet but without a link I'm not sure where it came from:

"Sauerbrun has experience as a holder, although Belichick said that doesn't mean he will hold in Sunday's game. Belichick said the team's quarterbacks and practice squad punters had been holding in practice."

That is probably why Andy Hart was assuming it will be Cassel at least for this week. Another Planet poster said Matt had held at USC and volunteered to step in if needed.
