Patriots asking for this compensation for Jimmy G...

Kenny Phillips should of been in a pats Jersey.
Last year the Saints got our receiver.
The Titans got our runningback.
We were robbed

I'd do it for the #12 straight up. Get our highest pick since Mayo or trade down, for a late #1 (stolen pick equivalent) and #2 (replacement for original JG pick).

If we get more, all the better.

Maybe someone in Cleveland has loose lips.

Intentionally loose lips I assume. We must remember that there isn't an "in Hue we trust" mindset among Cleveland football fans.

The Browns have to prepare their fan base for the hefty price they are going to have to pay to get Jimmy G. That's what was behind the Mary Kay Cabot article which is the subject of another thread.

When the deal comes down and the Browns give up the 12th overall and a 3rd round pick for Garoppolo, the Cleveland media and fans will think it's a good trade because the Pats wanted a first and a 2nd.

I still say no.
But thats good compensation we could give Brady weapons or strengthen the D.
Im scared to push picks into the future with this commisioner.[/QUOTE]
LOL...it's a shame it's come to this but yeah.

How about #12 and swap 2nd round picks ???

Of course this claim is pure speculation. BB is not calling anyone with demands for JG. He's in his office watching film and will certainly LISTEN to any offers that are made for Garapolo. And if he hears one he likes.......

Makes sense for that to be leaked in Cleveland even if that didn't come from the Patriots camp, they need to get a feel out of their fan base whether it's a go for it or if they should draft another bust in Watson.

the bottom line here is that brady's not going to retire for at least two years, he's already publicly stated that. and would you bet against him trying to play another year or two beyond that no matter how much he starts to sporadically decline or get injured?

the patriots are never going to cut our 5-time super bowl winning greatest of all time quarterback. period. so the only real option is to try to build a team around him that's strong enough to win another super bowl (2) even if he starts to slip a bit. beef up the defense, build a pro bowl running game, etc.

two firsts and two seconds helps with that, especially with #12 potentially getting you an all pro if you pick well.

it's a no brainer if the browns offer that you take it without thinking twice. no matter how good JG is - and he might be very good - we're tied to the mast on the SS Brady so we can't keep him. /end

Yup sounds like a Cleveland "testing the water" leak. looking for reactions and laying out why they couldn't do the trade or why they got a better deal depending.

True, but there could be basis in fact here. BB may not have called, but Cleveland could have. "What will it take for you to send us Jimmy G?" "#12 and a 2nd." "Ok, we'll get back to you......

If the Pats want to gamble on finding TB's replacement in 2020 then the trade for me would be SF's 33 this year and their #1 next year. Out of the available trade partners SF has the most upside at being the worse team next year. They have a new front office, new coaching staff and most likely will be turning the roster over. This gives the Pats a shot at the kid Darnald from USC. If he continues to build off of last year he has the ability to play at a high level especially after getting 3 or 4 years of sitting and learning behind the greatest to ever play the game. If he has a bad year next year they can always flip that pick for multiple picks and build around JB.

Well the supposed source for the tweet is CBS Boston, so is it a planted story from Foxboro or something from Cleveland. he Browns twitter guys don't sound too enthused about the idea, guess they should draft a rookie who will flop, rinse and repeat.

The USC kid could be special but Id rather hold on to a sure thing in Jimmy G and forgive me if im gun shy on moving picks to future years.
