Unless we see extensions to major players today, not even possible. I'd rather have depth than a star at an uncertain position.

The Pats need to make a lot more moves to fit Peppers under the cap. The Pats would need about $10-12 million under the cap.

I guess the Panthers fans do not undertand ANYTHING about the cap...not surprising.

People in Carolina arent that good in math, maybe the salary cap is too complicated for them.
Aint happening, cant happen, even if Felger thinks so.

Peppers is way too expensive to wind up in NE. KC? They are usually loaded with cap money unspent.

Is it Shawn Merriman? Immediate 3 -4 exp LB and hopefully a pass rush because Burgess svcks.

KC gets Peppers, re-structures contract, then trades to Pats :)

    IE he couldn't be traded.

Did peppers pick the pickled papers for the panthers?

So why cant we agree to a trade ONLY if Peppers agrees to an extension?

if they did not get him in the offseason there are not going to try to make peppers a OLB now yes he can play DE in the 4-3 and just russ the passer untill he picks up the whole play book at the end of the year

but they dont have the cap to make this happen he will not take a pay cut

With both TBC's and Alexander's cap numbers increasing, and Galloway chewing up dead cap space, I'm curious how we're fitting in the roughly $11M worth of salary that Julius Peppers is owed.

I think that would technically be tampering. You are talking to a player and his agent prior to having his rights. Even if you have permission...

Its not tampering as long as the team (Carolina) consents to it and allows a certain window for talks to be open.

BUT! Most teams would not do that because this leads to much more idfficult problems. Whats to prevent our Coach or any other team from Faking interest in order to just say we wont trade for you now but if you somehow become "free" in the offseason we could give you XXX amount of money.

Kind of like what Jets did with Crabtree

The Panthers could give them permission to talk to Peppers. Trades contingent upon extensions are common.

The Jets even talking with Crabtree was tampering.

No, because a team cannot sign a player to a deal until he is traded to them and Carolina can no longer negotiate a long term deal with the player in order to facilitate a trade which means he comes to any team under the franchise tag which means you have to fit him in under your present cap until you get an extension done.

Just stop people. We've made a bunch of moves today that have decreased our cap space while extending low salary players into 2010 or 11. Nobody is coming unless it's a replacement for what Galloway was envisioned to be. Nobody looking for a lot of money is getting extended. Bill will leave a couple of million available for (god forbid) later season injury replacements. That's it.
