OT: Mike Pereira really talks out both sides of his mouth

This isn't surprising at all. Ever since Pereira has had his "Official Review" segment he has gone as far as humanly possibly to defend the officials. His explanations for the Steelers/Seahawks Super Bowl were a classic.

Periera's segment on NFL Total Access is a joke. This week, despite the host leading the segment with, "there is never a shortage of controversal calls each week," they reviewed ONE play, then spent 5 minutes discussing the ref's "cold pants", and why Gerry Austin was wearing them inside Ford Field... um, ok? Periera is an expert at twisting the rules around his side of the argument, and even when he gets on an official a little (like the Back Judge waving Phil Dawson's FG off in that Ravens/Browns game before further discussion), it's almost always with the qualifier that either (a) the call was correct or (b) he could understand either side of the call.

With respect to that Pats-Colts game, the officiating was abhorrent, but it really is just a matter of incompetence. That same crew (Parry's crew) worked the Cowboys-Packers Thursday night game, and there were myriad terrible calls in that one. The NFL needs full-time officiating, and needs to compensate the officials properly for that time (Hochuli, for example, is a lawyer, and I would imagine that he'd be reticent to give that up without proper compensation).

Mike Pereira seems like more of a public relations person on

behalf of the officials than a supervisor of officials. He tries

to come up with a positive spin no matter how bad the officials

look to the fans.
