Cleveland Browns, Mike Holmgren meeting about front-office position - ESPN

ESPN is reporting that the Browns are wooing Mike Holmgren to be their director of football operations...first getting in someone who knows how to run a team and getting in someone who knows how to coach a team with overzealous fans.

Looks like the other shoe is finally going to drop for Mangini in Cleveland if Holmgren takes the job  :D

That will be a fun power struggle...old toy versus new toy.

You think? Lerner has shown some extreme patience in the past. Plus, the Browns beat the hated Steelers for the first time in what seems like a bajillion years. You don't think Mangina earned some leeway with that? I think he'll get one more season, unless a strong GM comes on board and casts Fredo out.

Mangini is gone when this happens. He is lucky if he can even get a job as a water boy after his stick bomb in Cleveland. I dont get how this guy is even alive after all the crap those poor fans are going through. This is a good move for the Browns.

You might be right, but there's no way Holmgren would take this job without "hire/fire" power over the HC. If he's not going to get it, then I can't imagine it wouldn't be a deal breaker.

The Steelers' game said more about the Steelers than it did about the Browns (there's doubt that Big Ben even should have been playing and they've now put up stinkers against the Browns, Raiders and Chiefs).

I can agree with that. This is part of the reason that I don't think it'll happen (Holmgren going to Cleveland).

Granted. However, a win over Pittsburgh is a win over Pittsburgh, and I think that for someone who gave Butch Davis and Romeo Crennel a ton of leash, this kind of development is going to foster some leeway.
