Basically called him weak for not suiting up.
    No question about it.....
Ward wanted him in the huddle tonight

OT: Ward calls out Roethlisberger on Football Night in America

Man, I'm sure a bunch of you guys saw that; pretty crazy stuff. Hines basically said that everyone plays hurt, and that it's maybe 50-50 that guys in the locker room are behind Ben for not playing due to his concussion. I was pretty shocked to hear it, and Ward made it very clear that players can't be worrying about the rest of their lives when they're players.

Thankfully, Rodney and Dungy were both all over him after that. I especially liked where Harrison said that, in the Pats' locker room, Brady could sit out for any reason or no reason at all and it wouldn't even occur to anyone to question him. He also aptly pointed out that, player or not, to not think about your life in the long term is just stupid.

    What did you guys think?

It's nice to talk tough sometimes. But it's stupid to ask your franchise QB to play when he's not ready after a concussion. Really stupid.

Re: Hines Ward call out Big Ben

I've been in a time machine to tomorrow. Hines Ward said he was misquoted, taken out of context, and would not say that. Ben Roethlisberger said he spoke to Hines and everything is fine and happy.

Re: Hines Ward call out Big Ben

Ward can call out Big Ben all he wants. If he really wants his QB in there he can take it up with Pittsburgh's medical staff. They're the one's who downgraded him yesterday. The team made the call. Not Ben. I think he'd play if he could. IMO

From Bob Holtzman's Piece last night on ESPN:

"I'm told Roethlisberger planned on playing but that head coach Mike Tomlin and the Steelers' doctors want him to sit as a precaution."

Re: OT: Ward calls out Roethlisberger on Football Night in America

Ward always has a sh*t-eating grin on his face when he takes out the ACLs of other players. I'm not surprised he said this. Meanwhile, if there is one player in the league that needed to get a career ending injury, and it was unavoidable, and I was asked to choose that player...

I would love to see somebody blast Ward the way that Boldin was blasted last season in that game against the Jets. If anybody deserves it, it's this smug ****sucker. Knock him out of a few games and let him know what it feels like to be cheap-shotted.

Re: Hines Ward call out Big Ben

Then they should have told Hines prior to his interview
I mean he basically savaged Ben under direct questioning.
    No wriggle room here
    No love either

A potential 15-year Hall of Fame career versus a divisional opponent in a disappointing season.

Re: Hines Ward call out Big Ben

Agreed. I haven't heard the exact quote but if this isn't some sort of spin, I thought Hines would be smarter than to say something like that, especially through the media. Very bad move as a teammate

Ward can't put that together. You're expecting too much of him there. The guy IS a Georgia product afterall.

Re: Hines Ward call out Big Ben

The NFL is changing their concussion guidelines ... the Steelers are ahead of the current policy in this area ... a neurologist (Dr. Joseph Maroon) said Ben should sit out the game ... good for them in this regard.

Re: Hines Ward call out Big Ben

It was ridiculous type-A bravado from a guy who said, in the same interview, that he's lied to Drs... Total trash. They probably lose with Ben in there anyways.

As someone said - not worth it in a dissappointing year - or ever.

Re: Hines Ward call out Big Ben

Oh i agree. I think it has to do with the "players" mentality. Unless you're limb's are falling off, you play!

Which is why Goodell and the NFL are trying to impose the new concussion laws - for lack of a better term - trying to help the players.

Re: Hines Ward call out Big Ben

Hey I think both the Steelers and the league are spot on with the caution directed at concussion injuries.
I was shocked Ben's teamate called him soft for not lying to the doctors.

    I mean WOW!!!!!

Re: Hines Ward call out Big Ben

Man oh Man, I can't believe he would call out Big Ben like that. Its one thing to have private misgivings about it its another to give a nationally televised interview where you say he's not tough enough, especially calling out a guy who has done so much for the franchise, Ward certainly wouldn't have any rings on his fingers if it weren't for Ben. Obviously there are times when you can question a guys toughness but a guy like Ben has earned his right to make the call on his own personal safety without catching flack.

Watching the self destruction of the Steelers this year has been a joy, and this coming week should be quite enetertaining in that regard.

This is a locker room problem now.
