So what are the Packers supposed to do to please Goodell? Let Favre go for no compensation, possibly to a divisional opponent?
No team is going to offer GB anything reasonable in a trade as long as it looks like he might be released or traded cheaply just to get him out of GB and make everyone else happy.
The only way for this to be resolved with everyone (including GB) happy is for everyone to just let it play out. Any resolution within the next few weeks is bound to short GB. When Favre is looking at not playing at all he'll be willing to go anywhere and restructure his contract. When teams get a couple games into the exhibition season with a crummy group of QBs they'll be willing to give up appropriate value. Only then will this be resolved.
