Maybe he was joking, but gregarious Dolphins linebacker Channing Crowder confessed today he didn’t know until Tuesday that people spoke English in London.

Crowder, a former Florida Gator and Atlanta native, apparently isn’t sure where the plane is headed when it takes off this afternoon for Sunday’s game against the New York Giants in Wembley Stadium.

“I couldn’t find London on a map if they didn’t have the names of the countries,” Crowder said. “I swear to God. I don’t know what nothing is. I know Italy looks like a boot. I learned that.

“I know (Washington Redskins linebacker) London Fletcher. We did a football camp together. So I know him. That’s the closest thing I know to London. He’s black, so I’m sure he’s not from London. I’m sure that’s a coincidental name.”

When reminded Dolphins practice squad receiver and NFL Europe veteran Marvin Allen is from London, Crowder’s standup routine didn’t miss a beat.

“He’s from London?” Crowder said. “I knew he was from over there because he talks funny. I was surprised (when they met) because — I don’t want to say he didn’t look the part because that’s a stereotype — but he didn’t look the part. I heard him talk, and I thought he had a recorder and was just mouthing."

Holy crap this kid is stupid!

What an idiot, this guy is too dumb to play football. There's no way he is a smart player on the field.

um i dont know but i think he was joking. The whole "stand up routine" comment the reporter threw in there.

Because its humanly impossible for him to not know that English is spoken in London.

I dunno, he was a Gator ;)

Even dumb people watch James Bond, I'm sure he's joking !

Well, my 4 year old grandaughter was surprised to hear that she spoke "English".

My vote is for joking, no one can be that dumb...

Big strong and dumb (with football smarts), I still hope he becomes an ILB for the Pats 2009.

Crowder was a member of the National Honor Society, Graduated with honors from Florida, and Scored over 30 on the Wonderlic.

My guess is he was goofing around.

OT: Channing Crowder is an idiot

Dolphins LB Channing Crowder, who appears likely to start in the middle Sunday against the Giants with Zach Thomas ailing, says he didn't know until Tuesday that people in London speak English.
"I couldn’t find London on a map if they didn’t have the names of the countries," he said. "I swear to God. I don’t know what nothing is. I know Italy looks like a boot. I know London Fletcher. Re: OT: Channing Crowder is an idiot

He was kidding. Wasn't he?

My goodness, I hope so.

Re: OT: Channing Crowder is an idiot

No he wasn't kidding. This is actually the level of knowledge of roughly 30% of the graduating class of the "elite" football colleges. Why? They are NOT getting paid to know geography, or even math or english...they get paid to knock guys on their butts. Simple. Dumb. Welcome to modern american society.

Re: OT: Channing Crowder is an idiot

Crowder was the same Norman Einstein who was giving the Pats bulletin board material before last week's game.

Re: OT: Channing Crowder is an idiot

Crowder has stuck his foot so deep into his mouth its come out the back of his head.

He came out after his sophomore year, are you sure he graduated?

Actually, no, I'm not sure -- I took the word of a Gator fan. Since then I've learned that he had a year of prep school before UF while rehabbing a knee injury, so it's very possible that if he took a heavy course load + summer classes, or if he's taken Spring classes since he's been with the Dolphins, that he's graduated.

I really don't know, but it sounds reasonable.

Wow... after reading this, I will be sure to send my kids to the University of Floriday for them to get themselves a good edumacation.............

I'd like to give the kid a break, too. However, isn't being a member of the National Honor Society simply a function of getting reasonable grades? And if one goes to a school and/or in a program where getting good grades is not a meaningful accomplishment, then isn't that membership somewhat meaningless?

The Wonderlic is not a measure of knowledge, and doesn't claim to be.

I think he was joking.
