Check out his picture that a Jet fans posted in the thread about this article. It TOO will make you smile. When you look at it closely you will understand how that last drive happened just the way it did. It shows the Pats OL driving the Jet DL 3 yds down field

    Disable Jersey

    My favorite lines....

It also highlighted the inconsistencies plaguing a team that has lost three straight games, in three ways, and, if given a chance, could probably invent a few more.

In the past, despite all their issues — an inexperienced and turnover-prone quarterback, in particular — the Jets could depend on their defense

Another great thread this week on Patsfans!

    No Jersey Selected

And #31 all alone on Cromartie Island, safe from contact.

Can't remember when it happened, but did you see the play along the left sideline when BJGE was running with the ball and Cromartie seemed to just run alongside him? It was the strangest thing: Benny just kept moving his legs and Cromagnon kind of made contact with him but waited for Wilkerson or someone else to bring him down.

Weird player. So talented, but so unaware at times.

That wasn't even all linemen: that's Gronkowski on the edge. Definitely makes the Mankins, Light, Gronkowski combo look like an unstoppable force. The Jets defense, by contrast, is clearly not an immovable object.

Unaware? No, he's aware. The problem with Cromartie is he's a *****. That's the reason SD lost against the Jets in the playoffs a few years back. Cromartie shys away from contact.

Yeah, posting an entire article is a copyright violation, unless you paid the NY Times or got permission. i did a paper on fair use in graduate school and basically you need to provide the link and post no more than about 10-25% of the article, so people will visit the site to read the rest.

    Here's Ian's sticky...

Thanks Ray, I thought it was something like that when I saw the thread was missing. I don't usually start thread featuring someon else's writing. ;) Consider me fully educated now.

No problem, Ken. I quote a lot of articles on political stuff elsewhere. My suggestion would be to quote a paragraph that is a good tease, or find different sentences and put an ellipse(...) between them to show they're cherry picked.

Some sites are pretty lax, but a big site like this will get lots of complaints and they can be very serious.

“We were trying to make them run the ball,” said Smith, who added that the Jets deployed additional defensive backs, in zone coverage, to entice the Patriots. “We felt like we had a better chance to stop them doing that.”

I do not believe this to be true. As Simms pointed out in the game coverage the Jets were in their nickle defense and had their passing rushing D-Linemen in the game. After a couple of successful runs they swapped out the Lineman but stayed in nickle. In short they were convinced the Patriots would revert into being the Patriots.

On 3rd and 4 when BJGE was stopped on second down for no gain and they gave it to him again that was the play that defined this game for me. They stayed committed to the run and he rewarded them with 14 yards and the presence of mind to stay in bounds. The Jets were think pass 100% here and completely bailed out of their run responsibilities. Gronk and Light demolished them.

    I really enjoyed that article.

I don't know if they were talking about the last drive or the game in general when they said they deployed more DBs to entice the Patriots to run rather than throw. I really don't see how that could be true on the last drive where running out the clock was the best option for the Patriots.
