Who has been injured and is not likely to produce much this year?

    Cunningham?

    Vollmer?

Perhaps a young player or two could get some time on the 53. Carter? Dickinson?

They'll give Vollmer every chance to come back. Too valuable.

Cunningham's a possibility if M. Carter plays well this Sunday.

M Carter isn't on the roster.

This is a good excuse to IR Cunningham. They can cut their losses (as far as a roster spot) and let him keep relearning how to be a 4-3 DE behind the scenes.

There is speculation he could be signed form the PS to take Cunningham's spot. Carter won a practice player of the week jersey last week and several times previously. Drafted as a developmental player, he was a big play defender whose strength was rushing the passer.

I just think it's IMMENSELY cool that somebody:

1 ~ Even REMEMBERS Smack Herron...

2 ~ Cares so little about his descent into The Dark Side that he takes his NAME!! :rocker:

"The sixth-round draft choice from Central Arkansas has been recognized in recent weeks by the coaching staff for his exemplary work in practice. He's bulked up from 252 to 268 pounds this year, his commitment in the weight room paying off as he makes the big transisition from the FCS-level to the NFL."

Wow, I like the work ethic. He went from no chance in hell being a DE/OLB here at 6-4 252 pounds, but at 6-4 268 pounds, he's getting there.

Vollmer needs to go on IR.

He's been hurting the team on the field because he's not healthy. Might as well rest up for next season.

I disagree...Solder hasn't been all that hot lately either. If there's any chance he can get to 100% you do it. Can't have one of those playoff chokejobs by the OL.

I would've never thought i'd say this but boy am i friggin glad Matt Light returned.

Trying not to be next 3rd grader anxious to meet the new kid in school but if hes improved on (including the strength and weight) some of the things listed in his scouting report, there is reason to be optimistic that this kid can contribute to the pass rush.

Looks like his negatives can be fixed via coaching and the weightroom, he already fixed the strength and size issue.

As Reiss mentioned, it makes sense to give Carter a shot.

The team, unfortunately, loses absolutely nothing by placing Cunningham on IR. He has shown no glimmer of hope this season. He has not stood out on special teams. He only gets in on defense at the end of the game, after the Sterling Moore's, Julian Edelman's, and Nate Jones' have left the game.

Carter has experience playing special teams, and can be a productive roster spot with that. He should at least be given a chance to rotate in on defense, to spot Anderson or Carter and see what he can do.

The Patriots have not had a lot of good fortune developing the Vince Redd's, Justin Rogers', Jeremy Mincey's and Shawn Crable's from the draft recently, but no downside to making this move.

Jeremy Mincey does not deserve to be included in this list of trash. He has carved out a decent career, albeit for the (aptly named) Jags.

That said, I am intrigued, but not overly optimistic that Carter will provide anything this year. It's a nice thought though.

All of the players you mention are either out of football or are marginally successful. Lets not get too excited over Jeremy Mincey. He might have a role on this team but hes not even close to having Andre Carter or Michael Anderson's talent or production level. History shows that BB gets the most out of what a player has to offer. History has also shown that BB has not been 100% successful in drafting players and turning them into NFLers. I don't think hes alone in that club.

My point is that you need talent to develop into something. If the player is short on raw talent, then a combination of experience, hard work, a good football IQ, ability to take to coaching and a knowledge of the game is critical for any player to be successful in this league. Because of their raw talent, if Cunningham and Crable had shown anything close to what Eric Moore did at the end of the year, they'd still be around. The next step in their development would be to continue to show upside and improvement. Obviously they either didn't or haven't and their current situation is a reflection of BB's evaluation of that player.

At some point, it's on the players to stand-up, be noticed and produce. If they do, they stay. If they don't, they're gone.

Apparently Cunningham suffered from a lack of offseason conditioning program:
