Has Miguel retired after a decade+ of extraordinary service to all PatsFans? It looks like his last entry was in September of last year.
Any updates on this situation? Is there a plan B? A young up and comer looking to make his bones as he tries to fill some very big shoes?
Ian....the cap page is a huge asset for this site. Don't let it die. If I was running this site, I would reconsider the amount of time your "writers" devote to their "PatsFans" articles that appear to get very little following based on the views tabulation. IMO, their time would be better spent updating the cap page with useful information and facts.
In the meantime, anyone have a link to the Jets site that has Patriots cap info? Imagine that...relying on a Jets site.

We all miss Miquel but this site will have to do for now. How accurate is it is the question. ;)

For a guy who is a Jets' fan, I gotta say this guy Jason (who runs NYJetscap) is pretty accurate. I think his numbers have been pretty close to on the money.

I don't think you get what goes into these amateur cap sites. It's got to be an avocation, because it's not just tracking and collating data, it's understanding all the nuances of the CBA and potential contract structure. Often times these guys are making educated guesstimates based on limited information released via the media and filling in a lot of gaps based on their understanding of what the deal must entail. We are lucky Jason stepped up let alone under the circumstances... He's obviously not just another teams fan, he's a fan of the game and the business of the game.

It is a significant enough task and contribution that I'm almost willing to forgive him for being a Jets fan.

Wait, did I just say that?!

We are grateful for Jason's service to the AFC East. While we honor his diligence and industriousness, we question his judgment in the selection of a team to follow.

There is hope. Woody & Rex can be counted on to screw the Jets up so much, that Jason and others who through no fault of their own, find themselves wearing green and cursing their televisions on Sunday.

To paraphrase Darth Vader: "The ability to destroy a franchise is insignificant next to the power of the Force."

Unfortunately, we can't give the credit to Woody or Rex. That franchise was terminally damaged a long time ago.

The Jets suffered from fractured and bickering ownership in their early years (Werblin et al). Leon Hess took a long time to pick off the pieces and consolidate control while remaining generally aloof from football affairs until the on-field nonsense finally got to him; unfortunately, his response was to take the team into the Carroll-Kotite error. He unknowingly compounded the problem by, with all good intentions, hiring a then dysfunctional Bill Parcells, which led to the final nail in the coffin when a well-known local fellow resigned "as HC of the NYJ." ;)

Woody Johnson outbid the Dolans (a truly fitting fate for the Jets would have been to be purchased by the Dolans, who have already wrecked the Knicks) but has proven that spoiled rich guys who have never had to work a day in their lives and have never run anything but their choo-choo trains as a kid shouldn't try to manage in the big leagues, especially when they're competing for airtime against the likes of Bob Kraft, Jerry Jones, the Mara's, Jeff Lurie, et al.

The news is even better when you figure that if Johnson ever sells the team, it will probably be bought by the Dolans, who will no doubt bring Isaiah Thomas in as "HC of the NYJ." :singing:

No doubt the level of cap expertise needed to compile an accurate team assessment is extreme. I would be happy just to read "notes" of each player's contract like Miguel compiled as he built his grid. What would be more valuable for this site...contract info at your finger tips, or lamely written "articles" that offer nothing in terms of info, just rehashes of stuff we already know and have already discussed for hours or days prior to their posting. I occasionally open one of these "articles" hoping to actually learn a new bit of Pats info....but it never comes. These articles are a complete waste of time for the writer and the reader. Their time can be utilized better. In the meantime, we need to go to a Jets site to learn about the Pats cap. Is that good for business?

While it stinks not to have Miguel keeping track of things, I am left with a bigger question. Is Miguel okay? I hope his leave, be it temporary or permanent, was by choice and not something worse.

If you are in "lurking mode" Miguel, I hope all is well. Thank you for all you've done!

Yeah, that's been my worry since the first "where is Miguel" questions popped up around October/November. Hope all is well.

And also, I miss the updates too :D

Brian McIntyre just posted an overview of the Pats cap that Reiss linked to. He used to have his own blog on cap and contracts before the league recently tapped him for a gig on their website. His figures show that Jason is close. Miguel used to say that being within a million or so was an effort. Within couple of hundred grand was as good as it gets because it's a snapshot in time and access to the minutae in some contracts fine print isn't widely available. Jason is within that good as it gets margin.

Since neither the articles nor the contract information on this site are up to your standards, why don't you climb down off your high horse and try your hand at it, and show all the rest of us mere mortals how it should be done?

    No Jersey Selected

He's quasi-active on Facebook (0-5 posts a week on average, most recent on July 3rd), so I'm pretty sure he's OK. Maybe he's just moved on from some of this stuff...

Saw this post and as for Miguel I know he's just been busy, and unfortunately as MoLewisRocks pointed out, I don't have enough knowledge or understanding of all the nuances of the cap to do it accurately. That's always been Miguel's area of expertise, so I've deferred to him.

Also, noticing some of the comments, as you know there's always something in the works and being added to make this place a little better. I've been busy over the past month or so working on a MASSIVE project that I'm trying to get ready in time for the season. I'm about 4-5 weeks away from finishing it. It's going to be a huge resource for all of you that no one else has done (to this scale anyway) and I really think you guys (and girls) are all hopefully going to like it. Can't tell you what it is, but hopefully you'll be impressed when it's completed and it will become something that you'll be able to refer to throughout the season. I've been working on it for about 3-4 hours each night trying to make sure it's ready in time...so hopefully you do like it

As for the articles, there will be a different format this season which will also hopefully be an improvement, as well as some upgrades to the forum right before the start of the season. Hopefully we'll be in for a great season of football to go with it :)

With the amount of time commitment that I'm sure a page like patscap requires, it could be any number of things. Honestly, I've always wondered why someone like ESPN doesn't just hire a handful of people to have pages like that for every team. It's definitely a job in its own right, and I'd be willing to bet that it would create more page hits than a lot of the nonsense that they put on their sites.

I'm sure the writers who put time and effort into contributing to this site are happy to read you comments that they are useless. Perhaps someone should critique what you contribute.
You do have an amazing point though. In a perfect world you should be able to dictate what people who donate their time for free spend it doing.
Perhaps if you think the site needs someone doing something that isn't being done, you should do it yourself instead of criticize what people who actually trying to contribute and make it better are doing.

Side note: I kinda feel like the Patsfans writers only get mentioned on the forums when people are criticizing their work. Either a) I'm the only one who generally enjoys what they write, or b) a lot of us do, but we don't really say as much with any regularity. If it's B, and I assume that it is, we should all probably start doing a better job with that, even just to counter people like the OP.
