PFT: Light to retire

Not that it is a shocker. Profootball Talk said sources tell them that Matt Light has decided to retire.

Source: Matt Light will retire | ProFootballTalk

Light always got a bad wrap by a lot of fans here. He did a pretty good job for 10 years protecting Brady's blindside. He will be missed. Let's hope Solder does a good job filling his shoes.

Per pro football talk, he is an all time Patriot.

Thank you Matt

Man this hurts, there goes Brady's security blanket. Best Left Tackle in Pats history (maybe Armstrong was better ?). Big Matt Light fan, great guy, great personality, and a warrior. Best of luck Matt, wouldn't be surprised to see him as a color commentator soon.

Thanks for all you've done #72. Five super bowls, three rings, several pro bowls...You don't owe anybody anything. Enjoy fishing, hunting, and teaching young people about the things available to them outdoors.

Best offensive lineman we had last year. Love this guy. Remember, Belichick always misses on his 2nd round picks. :D

He will be missed.

Best of luck in the future, and thanks for your efforts.

The Solder pick just keeps getting better and better.

Good luck Matt, one of the stable lineman of our dynatsy run, let's just hope Solder picks up where Matt left off!

Shame he couldn't retire with another ring.

Had a huge 2011.

will be missed by the team. Solid citizen.

Great patriot.

Enjoy retirement Matt

NFLN guys Breer and Rapoport confirming via Twitter.

Breer points out: If Faulk doesn't return, could just leave Brady from 2001 team.

Actually a nice tweet by Breer (did I just write that?):

if it's just Brady, another title would then be quite the mark of his impact on the Patriots, winning w/a wholly different set of 52

Dang, it hurts.

Makes you realize more an more that there is a finite timeline on our current QB.

I hope Light enjoys retirement. He seems like a smart guy and I'm sure he'll do well.

Thank you Matt. for everything. great player and a greater man.

Light is a patriot legend . I think OT just went into our draft needs

Wow, that sucks. One of the all time great patriots to me. I wish him all the best..

Not this year. Would imagine there'll be a veteren pickup.

Not clear on this. Does it free up 5 million or 8?

Maybe a lower pick. We do have three remaining.

Agreed but now if one of the top OT's fall to #27 I think BB will fire on him

Doubtful. We already have starting tackles. What we need is depth, if anything.

Quality depth is what is needed, especially at OT. What happens if Vollmer can't play again because of his back?
