I wrote this up to get an idea of where in the draft the team is looking for each position. It looks like in range of the first four picks there are 1 QB, 2 RB, 3 OT, 4 WR, 4 DT, 4 OLB, 4 ILB, 2 DB. I don't think it's a coincidence that WR, DT, OLB, and ILB have been the players most contacted and also the most targeted early. They seem to be checking out players they like that might be there at 22 regardless of team need or scheme.

Do the Pats always draft players on these lists? I was just wondering because that may give me a better understanding of who we are going to take. Can we completely forget about getting Jerry Hughes now? I also don't see Kareem Jackson on this list the CB from Bama. Alex Carrington is also not on this list. I also don't see Montario Hardesty, Toby Gerhart, and Ben Tate. I really hope we draft one of these three in the middle rounds. I also don't see Eric Decker at WR. Theres also no Gresham, Gronkowski, Mccoy, or Quarless at TE. Very interesting to see we aren't looking at many OL. The only one I really want based on value of where we are picking is Rodger Saffold.

Could someone let me know if we are not looking at these guys?

6 of the players we drafted are on that list, as well as several UDFA's we picked up (Hoyer, Grady, Agnone, Kettani, Love). As for the 6 we drafted that don't appear, we did attend their Pro-Days at the very least, but there was no concrete evidence that we were interested in certain individuals, so we couldn't add them to the list (Butler is the prime one, BB himself attended the UConn Pro-Day and worked with several of their guys, but not him on his own).

The thing to keep an eye on is the 'three contact rule' - look down the list of players, and see how many have had three separate contacts with the coaching staff. Those that do have three contacts (Gilyard was the first, and Tebow is now up to three) mean we're very interested in them.

We had that last year with Connor Barwin, Tyrone McKenzie, Jason Williams, Andre Brown, Rashad Jennings, as well as two contacts with other players to go along with unconfirmed interviews - players we really really wanted to draft. We got some of them, but sadly others were taken before we had a chance to take them at our preferred pick (I say that as we passed Barwin twice in the second round, and he went before our third pick).

We might be looking at the players above, and we've certainly attended the Pro-days (Carrington for example didn't work-out at the Ark. St. PD, but we were there), but there's been nothing in the media specifically pointing them out as a target, so we can't add them to the list.

There's still a long way to go and there's plenty more names to be added to the list, especially with us still to have 28 more visits (you're allowed 30 visits, and so far we've had Kurt Coleman and Ryan Mathews in).

Keep an eye on the list as it grows :)

This is what I was saying about the three contact rule. It's the best way of keeping tabs of our interest, although some will slip through the net - Mathews for example, I'd bet my house on us interviewing him at the Combine, contact which would put him in the TCR category, but there's been no report of it anywhere in the media, so we can't add it.

Just to add, I'll start highlighting the TCR players so they stand out nearer the Draft. Here's the ones we've had so far (I was wrong about Tebow, I thought it had been confirmed we'd interviewed him, but it hasn't - he's still at the two contact stage):

WR - Mardy Gilyard, Cinncy - I, RI, C, PW
DT - Jared Odrick, Penn State - MV, I, APD

Gilyard is very interesting, because we've actually had four contacts with him - we Interviewed him at the Combine, and he's since spoken to Scott O'Brien (Special Teams Coach), and Chad O'Shea (WR Coach) on seperate occasions, and then we worked him out privately last Tuesday (we might have actually had 5 contacts - I've not seen it confirmed, but rumours are we attended the Pro-day as well).

Analyzing the Dolphins draft, Week 10
Dolphins receivers coach Karl Dorrell joined his counterparts from the Bengals, Jets, Patriots and Browns in keeping Illinois wideout Arrelious Benn through an extra 90 minute session after his pro day. At the workout, the 6’1, 218 pounder ran a 4.43 forty and his stock is rising into that late 1st area.
----------
We round off this week with an interview. We’ll be trying to run one every week between now and the draft. We wanted to look at the small school road to the NFL, the path less travelled if you will and one of the small school backs we really like is Stony Brook’s Conte Cuttino who’s been getting a lot of interest from the NFL.
-----
SC: Did you have NFL teams in contact with you as a senior and if so, who?

CC: “The Jets, Texans, Patriots, Eagles and Cardinals.”

If we take him at 22 i am going to feel like a genius bc he was initially my top pick for us along with suh 8 months ago..:D

Yeah, a huge gamble picking one of the top OLB's in the Draft going to a team with a dire need at OLB.

Easley is supposedly killing it. "Two spectacular one handed grabs in a row" was the description I read on Twitter.
Yep, and he has good numbers which are going over to the Pro-Day thread after this post.
