YouTube - Justin Houston 2010 Highlights (UGA)

Plays both Left and Right side. Played OLB and Defensive End in College, but more importantly, has the size and speed to do the same in the NFL. Experienced in the 3-4 scheme.

270lbs, 6'3, with 4.5-4.6 speed....... Great Burst. Long arms. Productive in college.

Would you want Houston with our first pick?

No thanks, not on my short list for 17, I would rather see them trade the pick.

I like him.

But I'm praying for JJ Watt at 17, or Cam Jordan or Muhammed Wilkerson if Watt doesn't make it to 17. If Houston makes it to 28 I'd be very happy with picking him there.

28 At the earliest, id rather take him at 33. I think he'll still be there.

I would not mind him at 28........

at 17, it is going to be either a 3-4 DE or an OT.......if there's a run on DE's, then good value at OT will be available and vice versa. I doubt either will be good value at 28 sinc TSmith,Castonzo,Solder,Carimi,Watt,Wilkerson,Jordan will all be gone by 28, but one from one group or the other will be available at 17.

I don't think houston gets past the jets and the packers.

Nope. Not at 28 either

Same here. The problem is that Houston looks like a pure sub-package rush specialist, and he just doesn't have a great repertoire of pass-rushing moves. In college his bread-and-butter was a wide speed rush, and that's not going to be so easy when he's lining up against NFL OTs.

Houston sounds great on paper and i'm sure after i say thing he'll be the next Clay Mathews. When i put the tape of the senior bowl weekend on i saw him consistently get dominated by OT's and not just 1st round OT's either. He seemed to be easily handled... much to my disappointment.

As an SEC fan, I will give my quick opinion on Justin Houston. He is quite fast and would appear to be an ideal rush LB, but the problem with Houston is upstairs. He does not have the diagnostic skills needed to play full-time. He is easily fooled by play-action and has to use his athleticism to make up for his lack of football instincts. Couple that with work ethic questions and I would suggest a pass.

the only way BB will take him with the first pick is if the pats trade down to the mid 20's the pats are not great at Drafting OLB's so i dont want the pats takeing any OLB not named Quinn, at #17

Houston begins to be considered by us with our 28, not before. Even then, IMHO, Belichick is not likely to draft an OLB before 50 or so (see 2010). Miller is ready but he is a top 5 pick.

I'm not the greatest at personnel evaluation, but I have this guy as a 4-3 DE more than a 3-4 OLB. I've read some scouts saying that too.

I'd much rather have akeem ayers at 33.. though i dont really see a 3-4 rusher in this draft worthy of a 1st round grade other than miller

In other words, he's a poor man's Adalius Thomas?

That's the impression I get....he loves to beat OTs with wide speed and agility, but isn't really interested in contact. That doesn't bode well for a 1st round pick. He's another guy whom if we trade back from 28 or 33 into the 45-50 range might be worth a pick, depending on what the boss thinks of his football IQ.

He didn't play in the senior bowl as he's only a junior. Maybe you're thinking of another player.:rocker:

I find it hard to get excited about Houston. The reports of him disappearing for long stretches concern me. As a worst case I would suggest a poor man's Derrick Burgess. >.< Has anyone watched Houston's games for any length of time to give a firsthand account?
