Drafted 53rd overall in the 2nd round of the 2010 NFL Draft. 2nd year in the league, and he is not contributing at all to our team. In fact, He is not even good enough to dress for the games. How long do we have to wait for this kid to emerge?
What hurts the most is Bill Belichick is best friends with Cunningham's college coach Urban Meyer. Belichick clearly did a ton of studying on the gators considering he drafted three of them in the 2010 NFL draft. One gator in particular was Carlos Dunlap, a 6'6 280lb Athletic Freak projected to go in rounds 1-2. Dunlap was still on the board when we drafted his inferior teammate Cunningham(projected 3rd-4th round). Dunalp so far has recorded 13 sacks in 18 games played in the NFL. Cunningham has produced ZERO sacks in his NFL career. What could Belichick have possibly seen him Cunningham he didn't see in Dunlap? Did Urben Meyer tell Belichick that Cunningham was the better pick? I can't possibly believe that.
Dunlap was the better player in college, is the better player right now in the NFL, and looks like he is going to have the better NFL career. Dunlap would have helped our pass rush immensely.
Even if you don't like Dunlap as a fit in New England, Cunningham has not shown he is a fit here either. He was a critical pick for us. He was supposed to be our DE/OLB of the future, a guy brought in to really help our defense. So far, the possible draft miss on Cunningham is affecting our defense presently, and will continue to do so in the future.
