We should really start to let African Americans play on this team. Damn racists!

Why's the article so bad? Officiating did play a role in our loss, in a couple of our games -- not using that as an excuse, but it played a factor.

I wont get into Spygate or any racial topics...

Whitlock not having a damn clue but playing the race card anyway, surely you jest:rolleyes:

I love how he talks about the refs favoring the Patriots as well as "rule-bending" but doesnt cite a specific example, I'd seriously like to d!ck-punch that idiot.

Whitlock, just like most of the other 'personalities' that serve to fill up time on bspn on the various bspn entertainment shows in the hours between the morning SportsCenter and the early evening SportsCenter, probably can't even remember half the BS he spews on a daily basis.

He says stuff to stir the pot in order to get people to repeat what he says - and it works. Gullible people believe him because he acts so very seriously while doing it.

And one of his favorite go-to methods of doing so is by using the race card.

Look, this is a guy that insisted the Patriots should sign Jeff George when Brady went on IR in 2008.

He - and all of the very many others that fill in bspn's afternoon programming - should never be taken seriously. Whitlock, Bayless, Parker, Paige, Kornheiser and all their colleagues are clowns, but instead of being dressed up in a clown suit they wear a suit and tie. The only credit Whitlock deserves is that he pulls the act of magnificently, because after all these years so many for some reason still take his act seriously.

not saying i appreciate the divisive talk in this article but to an extent he has a point. most of NE's stars are white, Baltimore's are black. Boston is perceived among many members of black America to be a bit of a racist city when it comes to sports, Baltimore is 2/3 black. (Sox were the last team in baseball to allow black players, etc). I do see shades of Magic/Bird here....which incidentally wasn't a bad dynamic, sports has in many ways been an arena where America confronts issues of race, often in my opinion to good effect. If we're looking at strength vs. strength in this game, NE's O vs Balt's D, there is a subtext and culture clash whether you want to admit it or not. I've had this thought this week even before reading this article.

Fact is a lot of the people on this board have been calling Baltimore's players "thugs" all week....I see where that comes in with Ray Lewis, but when it comes to Suggs its a pretty racially charged term that I've found a little sketchy.

I don't like Whitlock and him dredging up spygate is pretty irritating, but I don't find this article to be as outrageous as some of you.

Whitlock: 9 black defenders for the Ravens. 7 (8 if you count Hernandez) white offensive players for the Patriots. Let the race wars begin!

    What drivel.

Whitlock sees race in everything. It is written into his DNA. It is part of his excuse-o-meter. Maybe Jason, people don't like the Ravens BECAUSE THEIR LEADER ACTUALLY KILLED SOMEONE!!!!

Funny how he mentions Spygate, yet fails to mention that Ray Lewis at the very least knows who murdered a NFL fan at the Superbowl and was convicted of interfering with a Police investigation, let alone the fact that Lewis may have actual murdered the guy.

No mention of that, yeah but it is all about race....

What "shades" of Bird/Magic do you see here??? Ravens and Ray Lewis have no rivalry with the Patriots. They have one win in history against Brady. Ravens have a rivalry with the Steelers, Pats have rivalries with the Jets and Colts (while Peyton was playing). Comparing the Ray Lewis/Tom Brady relationship, to the extent there is one, to Magic/Bird is ridiculous.

    No rivalry? Are you joking?

It's obviously not on the level of Bird/Magic (what is?) but you're joking yourself if you don't think the Ravens have a perpetual axe to grind when it comes to NE. And let's not forget they handed us the most lopsided playoff defeat in the Belichick era... I'd say there's a rivalry here.

Nah. When I think of NE rivals, I think Steelers, Jets, Colts (well, until this year anyway).

Ravens are a tough opponent but they're not a top tier rival.

One game doesn't constitute a rivalry. Your argument had no point. The only area where the Patriots are really more "white" than the Ravens is the offensive line, and I think we should all be able to agree that a white/black discrepancy on the offensive line is not an argument for massive racial difference.

Basically this whole thread is proof that writing controversial, inflammatory articles gets people to pay attention and read them and make you money. Meanwhile, there probably some really noteworthy articles about defensive alignments, blocking schemes, passing routes, and special teams that are getting hardly any attention.

I don't blame the guy for writing the article, I blame myself for reading stuff like that and then taking the time to comment. May as well go buy a supermarket tabloid and look at Kirstie Alley's butt in a bathing suit.

Of course the Ravens have an axe to grind with NE because except for the Ravens well-deserved win 2 years ago, the Patriots have owned them. Not NE rhetoric, simply the truth. Now Ravens fans may feel that there's a rivalry here, I can assure you that NE fans don't feel that way. Once again, no intention of disrespecting anyone, but the rivalry just isn't there.

If Jason Whitlock's name is on the byline, you can assume it will be one of the worst articles you have ever read. The guy is awful and has an agenda against anything and anyone Scott Pioli related.

    I love this paragraph though:

So he can mention the bad press related issues of Brady and Gronkowski, but not even a mere reference to CONVICED FELON Ray Lewis. He even needs to describe the character flaws of the Mad Men characters the Pats' players are related to and not the Wire characters the Raven playes are related to.

I hate to tell Whitlock, but I think that more readers know who Don Draper is than Stringer Bell. I am a huge The Wire fan, but that was more of a cult hit while Mad Men is more of a legitimate hit.

    Also, this is ridiculous too:

Funny, most of the talk this week has been about Joe Flacco. Last time I checked, his isn't black. Last time I checked, a majority of the players on both teams are black. I don't know of anyone who associates this team as a "white" team and the Ravens as a "black" team.
