Is everybody as psyched about Sunday's game as I am?

Probably like everybody else here I'm PSYCHED to see whether we have the stinker reviled by the masses in the preseason, or whether we have a competent backup here, or... (of course it's the tantalizing possibility given the TD beauty toss and the 51 yard gainer...) if we have our "steve young" here to match to Brady's "Joe Montana."

Please note, I don't believe number 3 myself, because we haven't seen enough to believe that, and I don't think that Cassel will get the opportunities straight out of the gate to "be" that.

BUT... it's really tantalizing to think he'll get those chances, based on the weirdly opportunistic way he was immediately used in game 1.

If defenses are dumb enough to lock down the short and middle routes, we could... COULD... see some opportunities for rah-rah come Matt's way.

I'll be happy with "managing the game," personally.

I take a different view. Sure, the story is all about Matt and he's the most important single player on the field for us... But, this game will be won or lost by 21 other starters on O and D and by the best coaching staff in the NFL.

I get your point, but I think you should say won or lost by 44 other players.

O'Neil didn't start and probably saved the win.

Everybody seems to have insightfully made the same point, that the game depends on more than one position.

Gotta go to work, but I'll note that I am, in fact, aware of the 21 other O and D positions, and the special teams in addition of course.

I do not, however, believe that I've ever seen the argument that "the right guard is the single most important position on the field."

I have, however, seen this argument advanced in the case of QB. I have also seen everybody and his brother here suggesting, in the past, that "it's all over" if Brady goes down.

Hence my excitement to see his replacement succeed. If only to see that "Oh ohhhh... Happy can putt!" reaction on the talking head shows.

Enjoy!

Save the sarcasm there, fella. We're all just trying to have a polite conversation. I thought you were putting excessive weight on the Matt issue of which, if I am to be equally sarcastic, anyone who watched the pats in preseason is well aware. As for the rest, I guess I don't know "everybody" and, to my knowledge, my brother doesn't post on this board. Cheers!

is it sunday yet?

tell me about it!!!

Yes! I think I'm MORE psyched than I would have been if Brady was starting. Nobody knows what to expect and I think we're about to see the team come together and play harder than they have in a long time. Who's not excited to see what the rest of our team is really capable of?

Let's crush those Rats!!!

"Psyched" isn't quite the word I would use to describe my current state of mind.

I would instead use "scared-to-death-we-don't-embarass-ourselves-and-give-Lord Fraud-and-Ratgina-and-the-NY/NJ-scum-more-reasons-to-feel-good-at-our-expense."

I am pretty excited. This sounds wrong but at this point is kinda fun to be the underdog again. If we beat the Jets it will be really incredible - whereas before their would be people writing off the Pats because they didn't win by enough.

There was a whole thread a little while ago about welcoming newcomers to the Board, so "Welcome to the Board" and thanks for the support from deep in the heart of Texas!

Any fans in North San Diego county with recommendations for the best Pats sports bar near Oceanside?

Relax, calibrating sarcasm is hard enough face to face never mind the internet. Gentle ribbing -- and in my own defense, at that -- was all that was intended, not a full-on sneer.

d ick.

JUST KIDDING on that last part :D

Sirrously, enjoy the game. To me the change at QB is the story this week going in... now if the D clamps down like a dominatrix on crack, that will quickly trump the story going in.

It's just more exciting in general to get the win now. Previously all we could do is mess up, or do the expected and win.

Story lines abound.

We all breath the same air, drink the same spoiled grain, and belch and fart the same combination of nachos, jalapeno, bean dip and CO2.

Happy gameday eve day eve, and enjoy Sunday!

For me this game has a playoff feel to it - you know, nervous but confident in victory.

i am looking forward to this sunday of football it should be a good triple header with the colts at vikings pats at jets and steelers at browns

You're right that is a great lineup, Colts Vikes is interesting.....

Totally agree. It's like last year's week 2 all over again. Once again, the New England Patriots have to prove to the naysayers that greatness is not one person, but a team of people with a likeminded goal.

We proved to everyone last year that we won't just roll over and die when adversity hits. And we will show the league that again this year.

that and mondays game is good also (though i recomend if you watch a game on espn you mute the tv and listen to the radio broadcast) so you have 4 good matchups in a 32 hours or whatever it is

oh one more thing, i dont see the pats losing to the jets after what happened down there last season. i would be suprised if the pats did not run up the score a little if they have the chance

Last week, someone started a thread out here saying that he had "lost interest" in the season because of Tommy's injury.

Are you kidding me? I am even more pumped for this week's game than I would have been before.

I live in NYC and you should read the articles putting pressure on the Rat to win this week, especially in their first home game in the new stadium. I'm telling you, he'll need a Secret Service escort to get out of the place when the Pats win.

So, how pumped up are we?

Are they really playing in their new stadium? I drove by it a couple months ago and it looked far from finished.

I am jacked & pumped. Won't be on the net untill after the game as I'm headed off to the lakes region this morning but I'm attending the game at Zip's Patriots Shrine where we'll have a couple dozen rabid Pats fans watching the TVs. It's a different kind of excitement reminiscent of the days before the Pats juggernaught era.

See you there, Pissah! And I agree... it's a different kind of excitement this week. More like those underdog days of old. (Not that I'm not happy to have had the success that we've had but my anticipation of this game and of the unknown is heightened this week.)

No, it doesn't open until next year or the year after. That place is still a bunch of steel beams.

Xanadu looks pretty goofy, too.
