Part of the argument goes is the 3 seed rather than the 4 seed worth risking injury to your starting QB and two star receivers in a cold weather game?
The Cards have no running offense. If either of those receivers get damaged for the playoffs, they can have home field throughout and it won't make a difference. Game over for the season. The head coach then gets to stand tall before the man and answer why he risked dreams of a championship on gaining street cred in a relatively meaningless game.
Maybe for Week 17, but not Week 16. After the Giants played all their players and gave it what for in a "meaningless" Week 17 game and used the momentum of that loss to propel them on a SB run, I think you will see few teams resting all their players for significant time.
I understand the school of thought you are saying, but IMO it's wishful thinking. This isn't the 12-1 titans with the #1 seed locked up.
