How much is Cassel worth?

Peter King, on SI.com today:

Hopefully King is right, the closer his annual average is to $14M the more likely a salary/signing bonus combination would be enough to attract Cassel to wanting a long term deal over taking the $14M for one year; once that's done the trade talk gets easier.

At this rate of inflation, we may indeed end up with $29M tied up in the QB position next year when we extend Brady.

I didn't type fast enough to add the poll (5 minute limit), so let's just discuss it. A team would of course also need to compensate the patriots.

ASSUMPTION 1: 4 year contract
ASSUMPTION 2: 20% annual salary increase
ASSUMPTION 3: A minimum guaranteed 2009 compensation of more than $14.6M

SOME OPTIONS
1) $30M = $14M bonus and $3M salary (guaranteed in 2009) $6.50M cap hit
2) $36M = $20M bonus and $3M salary (guaranteed in 2009) $8.00M cap hit
3) $41M = $25M bonus and $3M salary (guaranteed in 2009) $9.25M cap hit
4) $36M = $14M bonus and $4M salary (guaranteed in 2009) $7.50M cap hit
5) $42M = $20M bonus and $4M salary (guaranteed in 2009) $9.00M cap hit
6) $47M = $25M bonus and $4M salary (guaranteed in 2009) $10.25M cap hit
7) higher
8) now that I see the numbers, no one would give a pick for Cassel

I'll go with option 2

I actually thought you were referring to his trade value. Would you mind if I started a separate poll on just that debate?

Go for it!

If he doesn't play for the Patriots next year, I think he'll get something like 4/42 with $20 million guaranteed.
