In the Patrick interview, Goodell said he will hold a press conference right after the Walsh interview. Does this imply he knows all that Walsh will say and already knows his own reaction?
Goodell said he will ask Walsh:
Can you tell me of any violations of policy that the Patriots were involved in while you were there?
Do you have evidence of it?
On the evidence/no evidence angle I noted the following:
On Walsh, Goodell said "that it was widely reported that he has <Goodell then pauses> apparently has some damagning tapes against the NFL.
Goodell seems to focus on evidence. Can he do anything to the Patriots without more than the word of a former employee?
Here's my problem with the "He's got nothing" postings.
Even it Goodell can't go further base upon a preponderance of evidence, this doesn't go away. Even if Walsh has no tapes or evidence, Walsh can go on the interview circuit to every sports tv show radio show and say I did X and I also know about Y. He talks publicly about what knows first hand and second hand.
The NFL can say all it wants about "no evidence" but Walsh would be on tv everyday.
He may not have any "proof" but is the NFL prepared for constant coverage of the following:
"I (or someone else) taped the walkthough from the stands and it was left it at the hotel for Ernie Adams."
A coach talked to Brady after the 15 second cutoff.
Sure no evidence, but he'll be on every show talking from a "team employee" angle. This Goodell/Walsh meeting seems like a formality with both sides set for the next move.
