    ...is a challenge.

Rodak on the injuries piling up:
As camp rolls on, injuries mount - New England Patriots Blog - ESPN Boston

Most are vague and precautionary at the moment, so aren't of huge concern.

The big ones are Vollmer & Lloyd, though we have no reason to suspect Lloyd's injury is anything serious at the moment. Our offense is stacked, but if there is one spot that could derail this explosive group, it would be health at tackle.

As long as the Lloyd injury isn't serious, I really feel like he could pull a Moss and just show up Week 1 and take off. The practice I was at on Tuesday confirmed for me every report we've read so far - he and Brady were in mid-season form.

Ten players have yet to practice, which would bring a 90-man roster down to 80 - which just happens to be the size of off-season rosters up until last year.

While the number of injuries is certainly eye opening, it's still rather early to panic. For example a player (Lloyd) missing one practice is nothing to be alarmed about.

In my opinion the two injuries to most closely monitor are that of Vollmer and Mankins, which means keeping an eye on the players that would most likely replace them on the field in week one if they can't go.

If it is still like this in about three weeks then it becomes problematic, when the Pats play three games in the space of ten days (August 20-29).

My main concern is getting Zusevics healthy

Maybe it's my homer glasses, but I'm not worried about Mankins. It's the pestering, unpredictable back injury of Vollmer that bothers me. Hopefully surgery corrected the issue in the offseason, and this rehab time was expected.

I'm more worried about Gronk's ankle injury than anything else. If he can't return to the same form and athleticism that he had last year, that will be a big blow to this offense. What really concerns me, as I pointed out in the camp observations thread, is that he appears to be bothered by the injury still, but they aren't resting him. From what I have read, he has been out there every practice grinding on an ankle not yet fully healed. At that rate he won't recover fully, period.

Gronk is okay. The only lingering difficulty as far as I can see is he has a little trouble blocking linemen because you have to really plant to execute properly.

Otherwise he runs the tree just fine. Good speed, breaks, and timing.

Where are you getting this? Are you there watching (totally possible)? Or has the media feedback been this?

I mean, I hope it's true, b/c we need him healthy this year.

That makes me feel a little better considering it comes from someone who usually provides some damn good analysis.---I'm assuming you are PatsPyscho? Just saw the familiar avatar and put it together. What's up with the new name if you don't mind me asking.

I saw him up close last night. Got good seats at the stadium, but couldn't really focus much as I went with a bunch of people and had to engage in chitchat. I did get to see him in the LB zone coverage drill where he simply had to run routes without engaging in blocking or chipping, and he ran them just fine.

What do you think is going on with his blocking? Does he not trust the ankle yet, or does it still cause him some pain to plant it firmly?

No idea what the cause is; just doesn't quite look 100% just yet, but isn't what Bedard makes him out to be, either.
