Gasper: Woods re-signed to new deal (not tender)

This.

Hes not Willie Mac and the chicken littles hold that against him.

I'd also say that the overhyping of him last offseason on this board where many were touting him as a long term answer at OLB and a guy who other 3-4 teams were going to try to sign away produced some backlash.

I have said it over and over, I am 100% PATS fan and have been so longer than 95% of the people on this board. Posters like to paint other people into a corner when they do not agree with what is said.

I want the PATS to do well, at the same time I give the Jets FO props for turning that franchise around quickly and bringing in a hell of a lot of talent in a short time. I think their agressive approach is a good one and I remain skeptical that the Patriots passive approach this offseason will pay dividends.

I think it is disappointing that another year of Brady's prime could be wasted while the team depends 100% on rookies to fill glaring areas of need.

An example of FO poor performance is last year..getting boxed into a corner and having to trade a 3rd and a 5th at the last moment for an overvalued Derrick Burgess. This happened because the PATS were not proactive and suddenly were desperate to fill a need. They badly overpaid for Burgess as a result.

Think the team could not use that 3rd and 5th in this years draft.

Bottom line is I don't care if people call me a Jets fan or don't like my opinions. I have been there with the PATS since the Joe Kapp days, since they played at Harvard stadium, for Jim Nance, ... Gino Cappalettti, Sam Bam Cunningham, Daryl Stingley, Hog Hannah
I saw them play in Fenway Park...lived through the Rod Rust and Billy Sullivan years.

It seems like many posters on this board equate being a fan with agreeing with anything and everything the Patriots do. If you don't agree with every single move than you are a chicken little or a Jets fan. This post like most on this board these days moves from discussing whatever the subject is [Pierre Woods] to "What will the naysayers have to say about this move, I say it's a good move so I'm a better fan. By the way for all the posters saying what a good move this is, please share terms of the contract because it's tough to judge without that information.

Depth is almost as important as quality starters. In this case, Woods has proven that he can be good depth and has knowledge of the system. For just over $1M, I don't see why not. Nobody's expecting him to be a difference maker (if they are, they should probably stop watching football) but this a good move and is a step in the right direction.

he's a special teamer......he has never proven to be much of anything as an OLB, and his presence merely consumes a roster spot for a potential player who might be something

I am one of the few that sees the small value that woods brings to the table. Year in and year out, our special teams coverage unit is top notch and i am surprised that teams such as the steelers with horrible coverage units don't snatch up our specialists.

our special teams coverage really is not top-notch....28th in the league in KR coverage and 21st in the league in PR coverage

While your concern for ramon's plight is certainly moving, your defense of him is a false dilemma. I'm sure if you took some time to critically examine your own reasoning, you'd realize it doesn't stand up to the slightest bit of scrutiny.

ramon is a troll and known Jets fan. That's all there really is to say about that.

Just an observation of the board lately.

A lot of words that don't have a lot of meaning in this case.

Sure, they do. It's the same thing as saying if you had put some more thought into your post, you probably could have avoided resorting to one of the most common logical fallacies in the book.

You seem to think that everyone on the team needs to either already be a great player, or have the potential to develop into a great player.

Teams need journeymen and role players too.

naahhh....zero potential guys need not apply....woods is already 28 and not going to be a regular in any OLB rotation......considering the pats already have eric alexander, rob ninkovich, marques murrell, woods is just a waste

just tell you how poor the personnel decisions have been the last few years.........the pats need woods because he's the best they can find.....gotcha

He's a backup OLB who you wouldn't want starting for a full season but CAN play OLB without being a huge liability. In the meantime, he's a good ST'er. That's not zero potential, that's having a role on a TEAM.

Keep in mind that the poster in this thread who apparently hates Pierre Woods has made more posts about him in the past year than anyone else on the board.

he is a liability at OLB or you would have seen more of him last year....he is a huge part of the missing pass rush
