What is the future of the New England Patriots?

Many posters believe that sooner rather than later we may see the end of BB,
    Brady or both.

Although who do we replace them with and is this truly going to be a step in the right direction?

Or a harsh way to real kick to the cellar of NFL mediocrity?

Brady hasn't played his best football this season nobody can deny that but when he put's it together admittedly in glimpses he looks vintage Tom.

Let's look at the facts Brady is a pillar in the NFL the Joe Montana of his era no doubting that, He has 2, maybe 3, good to great seasons left in him.

As we saw last night on his next to last drive on the field he fired on all cylinders and made great decisions and pin point accurate throws.
Although it can't be argued that some of his throws were off, forced, poorly timed, and most disturbing not seeing open receivers on the field that Tom would normally get the ball to in a heart beat.

So what does a organization that seems to have embraced a long term vs a short term vision do?

Does Tom play the rest of his career in New England?
placing all our hopes and dreams in number 12?
Does the Patriots make a brash business decision that BB is so known for and trade 12 and his salary to a team like the Seahawks or Redskins for players and or picks?
    Where is Toms Successor?
Is he in New England going over the playbook at home as we speak working out at the complex and maturing by the minute in Ryan Mallet?
Is he currently the number 2 Qb who has been efficient and accurate at least in Preseason action who seemed to be on the same page with Price, Slater among others?
Is this man on a practice squad somewhere in the NFL getting better and better with each practice but not even a afterthought in his own teams mind?
Is he currently red shirted in a collegiate program or leading his team on Saturdays or is he leading his state in passing at the high school and being looked at by College scouts.
Will this man be an improvement, lead this team to the promise land or are we crazy to think about anybody besides 12 leading this team?

    What about our Coach?

Will the Patriots continue to chug the koolaid of the Belichick way for the next 5 years even though the mixture is tasting more sour by each painful yet all too familiar formula to beat this team.

    Where could his successor be?
On our coaching staff in the form of Patricia, Johnson, or O'brein?
    Doubt it strongly.
Is he a coordinator on a current NFL team, a college coach or coordinator or a young kid who currently is breaking down film on Kansas States special teams?
Is this man on a sports network right now bashing our team, or righting a just analysis of our strengths and weakness's?

    What say you Patriot Nation?
If the Patriots in the next 3 years move on from either of these men will you be able to deal with the consequence for success and failure?
When the new Coach punts instead of goes for it on 4th and 1 at the 50 yd line and loses the game will you be saying we should of stayed the course with Bill?

When that shiny new signal caller throws that crushing interception will you reminisce about number 12?

So what do we do if we finish the season an unthinkable third in the division and miss the playoffs.
Will you be screaming for the heads of the Men we could always count on?
Will you give them a chance to fix the holes in your precious Patriots
or if Rex unthinkably hoists the the Lombardi with that smug look will nothing but blowing up the formula satisfy you?

Myself I'm undecided seeing the value the Bengals got for Palmer in some ways makes me think sell high when it comes to 12, inside me though I know if I see him throw a meaningful touchdown for another team,
Or Belichick lead a cellar team like the Dolphins or Rams to the playoff's it will hurt more than watching them come so close yet so far the last few seasons.

So what say you Patriot fans?

I want to hear your thoughts on the future of this team and no better way to start than the 2 most important men in Patriots History.

I think the Mallett pick will ultimately be the best pick since Brady. It's impossible to project how much Brady has left in the tank, sadly. While he still has elite talent, his advancing age and an increasing lack of mobility make him a huge injury target. Great ones frequently lose their health before they lose their fastball.

I absolutely love the skill set of Mallett. The more he's around BB and Brady the more likely he is to mature as a person and as a player and hopefully give the Patriots a fairly seamless transition at QB like a Favre to Rodgers, Montana to Young or even Bledsoe to Brady.

I'm guessing the future of Brady and Belichick are closely connected. When one goes, I wouldn't be shocked to see the other follow.

I don't think the NCAA will let Brady play. ;)

Yes this team isn't going to be undefeated, but we aren't the Colts just yet!

People are going to be down after two losses in a row, but a team can't go 14-2 every year!

And once we hit January, no-one cares about record! The Jets have backed into the playoffs the last two season, but have got to the AFC Championship game both years!

If this team wins the SB, do you think any of us will give a sh*t about the last two weeks?

People may worry, but I think all the signs aren't there yet!

I think the signs are there, whether or not they evolve into fact is becomming more clear each week. Wins that come in the final minutes when the team is fighting to the final gun are "character wins" and they build momentum. Defensive breakdowns and last minute losses are not a good sign, especially when you have the lead and can't protect it.
This team is short one stud running back that strikes fear into opposing teams and short one smart athletic playmaking safety that is the QB of the defense. This team without Brady is nothing, that wasn't the case just a couple of seasons ago. I think we need to create our own version of ground and pound and have this defense "find itself" somehow. Right now, win or lose I hate the way this team plays the game.

The Patriots have running backs, but they're not utilizing them properly.

My prediction is the Patriots will hover around 8-8, 9-7, 7-9 for the remainder of Tom Brady's career as a Patriot. Nothing about this team's recent drafting and free agent signings gives me any reason to believe that this "thing" will get fixed any time soon. I don't about "only" giving up 24, 23 points in their last two games - there's no playmakers on defense and the offense has suddenly forgotten how to move the ball consistently.
It's a shame because we've seen what Tom Brady can do when he has a sound defense and capable receivers WHO CAN GET DOWNFIELD. Jeez, give me Reche Caldwell in this offense and they'd be back to scoring 28-30 points a game and MOVING the ball.
Until Krafty signs a big time free agent IN HIS PRIME (not a current Patriot), not some old washed up guy, I see no reason to believe this team will become a Super Bowl caliber team again.
Those fans that are wearing the rose colored glasses and farting rainbows really need to look at this team closely - there's a serious lack of talent on defense. After next week there's a VERY GOOD chance that this team will be 5-4 and on a three game losing streak. NOTHING from their performances the last two weeks should give ANYONE any thought that they can go into the Meadowlands and beat the NYJ. Certainly hope they do, and maybe they find a magic pill along the way, but this team will be SERIOUS danger of not making the playoffs if they lose next week.
Say hello to the 18th pick next April, which will surely become two thirds and a second in 2013

the future of the patriots will as follows:

    - they will play most of their games on sunday.
    - they will play half of theire games in foxboro
    - I will root for them every game
    - tom brady is not their last QB
    - bill belichik is not their last coach
    - someday they will have a losing season

As far as I am concerned there's only 4 positions that are adequately filled on the Patriots roster at present - Quarterback, Nose Tackle, Guard and Tight End.

    No Jersey Selected

I think it'll depend on the overall state of the team. I certainly believe Belichick would love to show that he can win without Brady, so I could see BB going for a few more years after Brady is gone.

However, if the team is in bad shape when Brady leaves (no good heir apparent, defense sucking, etc.), I'd expect BB would leave as well, rather than finish out his career with a bunch of losing seasons.
