Seriously, I think the answer is clear. He probably has been practicing but would have played in games if he could. He has probably been OK to run at 2/3 or 3/4 speed and has been practicing with Brady that way. But they likely didn't want him out in games busting it at 100%.
 
I think the truth is somewhere between yes and no.
I don't completely buy it, but I don't put it out of the realm of possibility.
I think he's gonna play well though. And they won't be ready for him.

Hit the nail on the head.

With the who whole Branch situation being unsolved the Patriots saw that he had a minor and i mean minor hamstring injury and instead of having him go out there at 75% speed risking hurting it further they told him look your going to stay hurt until the beginning of the season.

Case and point they played it smart.
